How to be a super smart computer tech... (secret of my success)

I'm a general pc tech, people come to me with alot of strange and sometimes difficult problems.

- I manage to help them solve them.
- they think I'm really smart.

Yet I'm just a tech with little skill joe shmo & crappy A+ certification from 4 years ago. How do I get this good as a tech? my 3 step to success

1- If you don't wear glasses or already wear glasses buy a pair of glasses that makes you look dorky and geeky. (If you have alot of muscle u might not want to wear clothes that hide your muscles cause muscle and dorkiness don't really mix) Go figure people think you're a better computer tech if u look like geek

2- Find a few lines and tricks to stall your customer for a few hours to 2 days.

3- Post the question or problem your customer have here in the sharky forum.

Within 2 hours to 2 days almost any problem I get will be answered by someone smarter than me. and sometimes multiple fix for problems.

after i get the answer I go about fixing the problem...

No matter how smart you are, there will always be someone smarter, or who has more knowledge than you do in a given area. Even the super smart computer techs need help once in a while. ;) Not saying that I am one. LOL Point is, I think that's pretty much why everyone comes to Sharky's. :)

that's the pussy way to do it. I actually took an A+ course and tinkered with my own computer through trial and error, and im not a dork

And not everyone has encountered every potential problem.

It's great to have a place like this where we share knowledge, in theory it makes all of us more effective.

Most of the time when I'm reading these, I don't have a problem to deal with, I just like seeing the problems and solutions so that if the situation ever does come up, I'm ready for it.

I'm an MCSE and an IT Director, still I see things here that M$ never dreamed of.

a 250lb bench.

and a 400lb dead lift.

Here is the only place that people will ask me questions.

I tried on some dork glasses, i looked more like an emo henry rollins than a dork............ unless you consider mr. rollins a dork....:p

That's WEAK :p

Not saying that I can do that though...;) Gimme a year or two and I'll be there though.

But hey, i'm just a youngin, and too damn tall to be able to lift a lot yet (6"8').

Funny thing is that most people wouldn't ever see me as a computer geek. Heck, physically i'm quite the opposite of a stereotyped computer geek plus I play b-ball, maybe I'll even play in college. So yeah, here's the only place where people ask me computer questions really.

Oh, isezumi...how much do you weigh? 220 or so?

Heres is what I was told by a very succesful IT professional; "A succesful person in this particular field only needs to know how to find the answers, not to know them theirselves." So in short use the resources that are provided for you.

if i could make another suggestion about how to seem smart and dorky and to advertise the fact that you know shizzle about comps is this

get an old processor *preforably one that you yourself blew up pushing the FSB :p *

drill a hole in it then put it on a chain attached to your keys and walk around with the processor part out of your pocket

I am far sighted so I will be needing glasses or contacts soon. But I only resort to shary's help after I exsquinished all other possible resources I have. I would prefer to solve the problem on my own.

I must say that is rather impressive Isezumi, However back when I was part of a gym. I was able to leg press 600lbs :) I was very suprised I was able to do that :)

Anyway.....

I have a simple solution to everyones problem. Instead of acting like you are smart. Why not get teach yourself and get smarter?

Its much better to be the person then to act like the person :D

Sharkys and my one geek friend taught me everything I know. I agree with ADM_Screed, it's about finding the answer, not necessarily knowing it yourself.

And ppl rarely see me as smart in my Dead Kennedys Tshirt and artificially colored spikey hair. ;)
