take a mobo tray out of an old atx case, and mount that to the wood. Just drill some holes through the tray, and mount it using woodscrews and maybe a little dowel shim as a spacer...
I was thinking that. Ok sweet
www.dwpg.com a friend of mine bulit a wooden case :)
a friend of mine put the entire comp on a board and mounted it on the wall in front of his desk then he mounted the cdrw(usb) underneath his desk so it was easy to reach (wish i had pics)
if i had a spare room that my wife would never feel the need to enter i would to this
I just take a sabre saw to a cheapo steel case. You wind up with a solid, in-spec motherboard backplane and i/o shield. but you have to figure out what to do with the drives and psu... :) I put them under the mobo nowadays.
Heh. I am just finishing up a case for the Biostar M7NCG and initially it was going to be a copper case but I scratched that idea because some of the metal working equipment broke down and I was running low on patience. So I made it into a wooden case. All wood and polycarbonate. 95% complete. Pics coming soon.
To mount the mobo on wood, just go to a local shop and buy some brass standoffs. Screw them into the wood and mount the mobo on it. Thats what I did and it works like a charm.
My case is a cube which is designed to open up completely to provide unhindered access to the internals. The mobo mounted on the wood is hinged so that one side of the cube opens up and lays flat on the table so I can work on the mobo and then just shut it back up like a lid. :)
