Do you respect your elder hardware?

Just wondering, I know most of you upgrade like crazy or at least have new rigs at once a year or two.

what do u do with your old hardware that is now "obsolete"?

Do you just treat it like trash or treat it like a war vet.?

I got an old P200 MMX system that hosted my BBS for a few years that I still look fondly upon (tho it sits in a corner of my closet with.

Still got a PIII 500 that's sitting on my desk taking up space and not doing anything

though I quite often install programs on it, that I install use on my Athlon XP 1800+

I do try to give away as much old hardwares to my friends as possible, but when it's proved that they are too old, I collect them together and bring them to recycling centre.

yeah, i respect my older stuff...

i got a pII 266 running in the corner of my room with a whopping 4Mb graphics card, and an 8Gb fujitsu HDD and 320Mb p66 ram... runs along fine as my web/proxy/development server...

They usually sit in a large box in my supply closet :D All in static bags and well protected. (Except for the really old crap)

I used my old Sony G420s box to hold all my old stuff. And its almost full! Maybe I should clean it out :D

Usually it just go's down the line to the older computer. Whatever it replaces in the old PC gets put onto Ebay.

I try and find someone who wants to get into computing and just doesn't have the money. I give them a system and get them started. I always keep my last previous system for a backup though as I am usually tinkering with my current system. I look for older people and young people as these are usually the ones who need a little help. When possible I try to give a complete turnkey system....yes I have even bought operating systems for them so that it could be turnkey. I consider this an investment in people.

I usually give stuff to my sisters. I still have a PIII 500 witch my dad uses downstairs.

But the only hardware that I won't part with it is my Voodoo2 card. This one I'll keep forever.

Very nice post.Yes i do respect my elder hardware.I have 2 pc's in my house the one is the system i have know(sig) and the other is a p2-266 with 64mb of SDRAM and a 4.3 Gb H.D with a 4M diamond stealth video card.

I sell my old stuff.

My old parts go into my daughter’s computer. The old parts from her computer are offered to the computer lab at her school, anything they can’t use I give to the thrift store.

I give my old stuff to a kid who needs/wants a computer.
(IF he or she has good grades)

I give my hardware away to those in need.

i give away the really old stuff, keep the old stuff for experimenting (later sell it)

For some reason, every time I upgrade, I seem to find a new use for the old systems. At this time, I have a PC, my fiance has one, our kids have one, then I have an exchange box, a ADDS box, a ISA server, and now have upgraded her PC again so I can get the final piece (video card) for my other box that will be my Linux experimental box. I did give away my old AST (yes I know, but I was in the military and that was all they offered at the PX) 133 mhz to a local church.

I still use a Pentium 3 500 :mad:
