Programs won't start
I've recently encounter an annoying problem. When my system is on for like usually after 30 min or 1 hour. and I try to launch my programs. I would see the "wait" mouse icon like a program would load
and then nothing would happen.
my mouse icon would go back to the normal arrow and the program won't run. I've been running the same program as normal.
the only thing is I did a virus scan afew days a and foun the
Backdoor.OptixPro.12 virus on my REGSRV.EXE file but I deleted and fix that problem followin this post
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...ty,1~mode=flat
now I'm getting my program not running.
I can't even use CNTRL+ALT+Delete to callup task manager..
any help or suggestion is most appreciated
I run:
WinXP (no SP1 installed)
AthlonXP 1800+
512DDR ram
120gig HD
MSI KT333 mobo
SB live 5.1

You wouldn't happen to have a pre-infection backup of your registry would you? That would seem like a quick-fix to me, but if you dont have one, there may be a problem...
EDIT: This virus isn't one I'm familiar with so I'll have to research it a little, but just a quick question...does it alter the existing registry keys or add its own keys? If it alters them, it seems like, unless there was some sort or repair tool out there, that it would take an ungodly amount of patience and time to fix. If it adds its own keys, it makes the problem a little more reasonable to fix.
Just my thoughts...I'll try and research more and see what I can come up with.
EDIT #2: I just read through the info from the link you provided. I ran into a similar problem yesterday actually only it wasn't the virus you listed. It was W32.Hawawi.virus (something like that). It acted very similar...if I wanted to try and open a program, it would pop up a little dialogue box that said "Cannot find winampw.exe" and then it wanted me to try and find the program (which wasn't even on the hard drive). Nasty little bug...It also completley wiped out all info from config.sys, boot.ini (actually it changed boot.ini to make it think that it was booting from the Windows 98 Setup CD)...everything was completley altered. I ran it through NAV via booting from the NAV 2003 CD w/ latest virus defs on a floppy. It found the virus I listed, but nothing else. It also claimed to have repaird/deleated the infected files, but the problem still persisted. I ran out of ideas after about spending a few hours (not counting the time it took to scan for the virus) and I just reformatted.
