on average how long did your WinXP go without needing reboot/reset?

On average use how long/often do your need to reboot/reset because of system unstability?


I usually reboot every 2 days (I leave my system on all the time) not that there was problems with it but just got a habit from of reseting regularly when using win98.

but recently I NEED to reset because the system tend to get a little funky after a day (programs not opening, or opened programs started acting funny)

I do most ly, IE, kazaa lite, winamp, outlook express

A month or two...usually reboot more often than that though just to install updates lol.

I only reboot after updates, etc. Otherwise I think my longest uptime for Windows XP was 3 months

updates and driver install when necessary

downtime bad...very vey bad.

I don't actively keep track but it's about once a month. I don't reboot unless I install updates or modify the hardware.

like mentioned ealier I only reboot if new software/hardware/updates is added.. though I'm using win2k ;) , but I think xp would be the same

It will go until i install updates when with a fresh install, but as time progresses it gets less. I think its beeen about 8 months since a reformat, and I have to restart about once a week.

My XP machine, a Compaq Evo N610c notebook, has never required a reboot because of the software. The machine is about 6 months old. I did have a disk drive failure that required a reboot when I installed the new OS and loaded my backup.

All the patches I've installed can get by with starting and stopping the affected service.

4 months so far for one of my computer with xp..
i don't do much on that pc just surfing and stuff

whoa, you guys leave your systems on for a long time. is it bad to shut down every night or something? i have not to used xp yet but when I had win 98 I would shut down usually every night because my system would slow down a lot.

i know my windows xp start up is less than 30 seconds, but...

Note TSR programs will be lost, but Windows integrity will be maintained and performance increased as a result of degradation incurred from extended Windows sessions. Here is how it's done. Usual disclaimers, if your machine explodes, don't bang down my door.

Open up TASK MANAGER in Windows XP and select the PROCESS tab. Right mouse click EXPLORER.EXE and select END PROCESS **IMPORTANT** KEEP THE PROCESS WINDOW OPEN. Then go to FILE RUN and type in EXPLORER.EXE. Net result, after a little bit of HDD action, the Windows shell and GUI will refresh. Voila! No need to reboot. EVER!

All of my systems run 24/7/365. I have one W2k system that has not been rebooted in over a year.

My Gateway P5-120 hasn't been rebooted for over two years! It has windows 95 and I barely ever use it. The only thing I do is use it for word processing.

I reboot maybe once a month just to get a fresh start.

Your electric bill must be terrifying. Leaving your box on 24/7 must suck a lot of juice.
