Website Building/Hosting

Right now I'm currently using FrontPage. One of my friends uses another program and said it was much easier to use, but the only thing is I forgot the name of the program. Can anyone mention some other programs that may be fun for me to fool around with? Also, since I'm at college, we only get around 10MB of "webspace" which is pretty limited for what I'm trying to do. My friend somehow managed to host his website right off his computer (I believe he ran an Apache server). Anyone know where I would look to start this? Thanks!

He's probably using Dreamweaver, you can download a trial from their site (it's "The industry standard"), it's pretty easy to use but more daunting at first than Frontpage. :)
