Great new way to clean hardware!!

Hey all,
Well, today I thought would be a good time to clean out my PC. So I open it up, and naturally, there's quite a bit of dust gathered in there.
But then it hit me: instead of wasting money on compressed air bottles, or spitting all over my board by blowing on it, I thought of the best way to clean the inside of my case: A basketball pump!!
Thats right, one of those little hand-held pumps is perfect! They force out alot of air with one pump, and whats best, you can never run out. You don't have to touch anything in your computer, and it only take a minute or so.
It also worked excellently. I haven't been able to clean my PC this thourougly in a long time.
Whenever I have dust problems in the future, I'm just gonna whip out that handy pump and blast the dust away. ;)

Sounds like a really good idea! I have never thought of anything like that before. Good work. ;)

Yeah I like that, nice job! Do they really push out enough air though? It seems like they don't create much pressure:confused:

I guess it depends on how good the pump is.:-\
With the needle attached, and a full pump, there is quite a bit compressed air expelled (can't give any exact numbers obviously ;)), but its certainly enough to inflate a basketball in a few pumps, and its certainly strong enough for my dust. ;)

I use the "blower" function on my wife's vacuum cleaner to disburse the dust. However, for the past couple of years, I've used top quality air filters on every case opening except the exhaust.

I use a dismembered 5 micron water filter to cover the air intake case openings. :D

I use somekind of mobile jukuzi device to clean my pc . And it works fine . :) .
But using a filter on pc case would be better way. If anyone knows a site , that has technical information about that , it will be appreciated.

Heh, when cleaning out my PC a few days ago because it was so dusty with the side of it off and everything I used a shop vac blower. Really put out a good amount of air.

I use electric "leaf blower" (2 hp) to clean my PCs every few months it gets the job done very well. My PCs are placed almost on the floor and they suck up lots of dust the blower method seems best to get all the dust out.

that basketball pump idea is great. i'm going to try it with an air mattress inflater foot pump. :)

A few years back I had to clean some fire damaged computers. There was a special non conducting liquid we soaked it in. Then we let it dry and put it back in the system.

a friend of mine has a Dell and it was so dusty in there, it wasn't even funny, i used a manual foot pump from an air bed. that thing had more air flowing out then any compressed air can, took out all the dust in like 3 minutes

Great idea, thanks. Made me think of using a hair dryer without heat of course.

Aw man, now I have to buy a pump...

i still get good compressed air deals from my cousin...


the computer must be in love with the cold air:D

Interesting ideas. I'll have to try a few of these out, especially the bicycle pump idea.
