I did it!!

Thanks to everyone here, I just finished building my 1st puter. To anyone that is hesitant, I say do it. It wasn't bad at all. I basically removed my old mobo, power supply, etc from the case, cleaned the case up and installed the new mobo/cpu/ram, and PS. It took me a coupe hours to do that part. I was pretty darn nervous when I was ready to power up, but the "Asus p4p800" flash screen followed by the Bios settings screen told me all was good thus far. I was a little confused about the winXP pro installation because when I tried a reset with the XP cd in the drive, my old win98 kept loading to the flash screen then locking up. I had remembered someone here said to change the boot sequence in Bios to load the CD rom drive 1st, which is what I did. After changing that, no problems. WinXp installed flawlessly. Phew! All in all it took me about 4 hours to do the whole thing, in front of the TV too. Thanks guys for answering my most basic questions. I'm sure I'll have more soon. I think I'll start loading my other drivers and software tonite. BTW, what an improvement thus far from my old system. The speed alone is very noticeable ( i used to have a t-bird 900mhz with a7v133a mb).

wow, that's a big step up

As expected, I've got 2 questions for you gurus:
1) the antec PS has a small connector to plug into the mb so that you can monitor the ps fan speed. I looked on the p4p800mb and could not find where to plug it in. I only saw to potential sites: the chassis fan connector and one labelled pwr fan. Would the pwr one be the correct one? It is a 3 pin plug coming from the ps.
2) I'm temporarily using my ati radeon 7200 video card till I get the 9800. When I installed XP last nite, naturally XP loaded a generic driver for the card. Wh en I go to install the 9800 do I need to uninstall and remove the generic driver that is being used for the 7200 1st, then load the 9800 driver or can I just install the 9800 driver over the top? Thahks again.

1) yes, I believe you can plug it into any 3 pin motherboard power connector, though if it sucks too much power you could kill that specific connector. I don't think plugging in your PSU fan to monitor its rotation speed is that necessary though.

2) You can do either one. Most people would suggest (as would I) to try your best to remove all traces of the generic and 7200 driver, THEN install the 9800, although you can just install the 9800 if you want.

1) The PSU fan doesn't suck any power from the header since it's solely used for monitoring the fan speed (although it would be funny for the PS to send power to the header in order for the header to send power to the PS :p)

2) I personally would just install the 9800 if you're using the generic XP drivers. There's a good chance that the generic driver is the same for the 7200 and 9800 since it's probably just a generic ati driver.
