my vistion tek stasy 128se geforce 4 ti4200 graphic card makes a buzzing noise. Its coming from the fan. Its just started the past few days. any suggestions. btw i do have my card overclocked would that have anything to do with it? Its not a constant buzzing. Like now as i type its not doing it. But it was when i hit new thread.

Oh yeah elephant16-that picture is a little disturbing.
My Geforce 2 fan was also making that noise...it was rattling around. Whenever I pushed down on the fan, the noise would go away for a few seconds.
I came up with my own solution. I stuck two nickels onto the top of the fan with double sided tape. It pulled the fan downwards and helped stabilize it from rattling.:D
If I were you I'd get a cheap replacement cooler like the Thermaltake GeForce 4 cooler, it should keep it cooled better too.
is it true that the fan trys to spin faster when the card overheats.?? a freind of mine told me not to overclock my card or my fan will spin too fast and wear out quicker. :( i may search around for a replacement. if i do get one i have some artic silver somewhere around here will i need to apply that? i have never dealt with a video card fan before.

Somebody else fixe their "rattling" fan by attaching a coins to it too. Wouldn't that make the fan spin slower?
Most manufacturers are el cheapo and put crappy sleeve roller bearing fans on their graphics cards which explains the high failure rate. I think your friend is referring to the GeForce FX cards which use the core temperature to determine the fan speed. I put AS3 on my old Ti 4200 core; it ran cooler at 304 MHz with AS3/Tt cooler than it did at stock (250 MHz, standard cooler).Quote:
