P4 temps?
Just wondering what was typical for a non-overclocked P4 1.8a with the retail HSF? Mine seems to run really hot no matter what I do. My case temps don't get too bad(I've checked with everything I've gotten my hands on, from different thermal probes to a thermometer visible through the window), but my CPU and MB temps read upwards of 48C idle/55C maxload(Prime95 semms to crank it the most but also 3DMark and so on). This is through the BIOS, MBM5, and that annoying Hardware Doctor. The chip is B stepping and the board is an Abit BE7. I've scraped of the thermal pad and applied Arctic Silver but it help minimally. Everything seems rock-solid up to 2.6Ghz or so but those temps are scaring the crap outta me. I plan on going Canterwood by fall but I really want to know what the problem is.

Could be your case. Some cases do not have good air flow. I am running a P4 Northwood B 2.4 and am running at 36 degrees right now. You should also be running both a front and rear case fan. I also just built a Northwood 1.8A for someone and overclocked it to 2.25. This was as far as I could go because of the memory I used. The CPU would have gone farther. It ran about the same temps as my 2.4

Right now i have my P4 at 12x270 with 1.65 VCore, and with Prime95 running it gets temps of 43/44C. I am not sure if i should give it more VCore and pump up the FSB anymore? What you guys think...at idle i am at about 33/34C
