I like Seagate and Westrern Digital (the Seagates seem to be the most reliable, while WD makes slightly faster IDE drives). Maxtor seems a little flaky, although I have never owned one (many maxtor enthusiast will say that Seagates good, but maxtors are more reliable than WD) , and IBM (hitachi bought them so they are hitachi now) flat out blows: typically loud and slow (a lot of their models get praise for being quiet in reviews, but all 4 drives I have owned [2 died, and they replaced them w/ 2 newer models] were very loud. the one's I have right now are louader than my freaking 15000 rpm Seagate drive).
I would have to say Seagate ATM, as WD have had some bad batches running lately (otherwise i would give WD the thumbs up over every other brand)
Western Digital. They're fast. Seagate is good too if you want a quieter hard drive.
then why get the wd is you are going to get about the same performance? the 7200.7 is just about the same as the wd... and seagate has a better rep as far as reliability goes too (not to say that wds are bad either, on storagereview they special editions looks to have the same reliabiltiy as the the barracudas).Quote:

hey, in the past year, wd has only been making larger disk correct? All the special editions w/ 8mb cache should perform the same shouldn't they?
