I want to use ZoneAlarm but i am not sure which antivirus software to use it with. I tried Mcaffee but Mcafee says that using it with ZAP may cause problems. Mcaffee has it own firewall. Is that firewall any better than ZAP? Which antivirus can i use with ZAP?
This is going to cause a heated discussion but what the hell. use AVG or Kasperky if you want to buy an antivirus. I have tried mac and norton and imo they both hog too many resources create too many damn conflicts.
Second go check out http://www.blkviper.com/index.html for some tips on preventing viruses from emails.
I use AGV and Zone Alarm, both of them the free versions, I`ve had no problem.
according to the experts at vbulletin the best anti-virus products are (in order of how good they are):
Eset NOD32
CA VET
Norton
McAfee
AVG, Panda etc are very very low on the list. Try doing some research. I used CA Vet for a year and it was a great product - not one conflict or problem and it got updates nearly everyday. I used it with Tiny. I am now trying out Norton Internet Security.. which is alright, but I kind of miss the less system hogging CA Vet..
Eset NOD32 is the fastest and best anti-virus product according to vbulletin.. I used the trial for a whuile and it was a well funky program to use.. very very fast machine code... a whole scan over in less than a minute...
I have a friend that never uses av software at all - he just practices very safe practices, he never accepts email attachments etc etc, but this limits his pooter experiences as well. I guess it all depends on what kind of user u are, do you use p2p, visit underground websites, lotsa prOn sites etc
Myself I use AVG and Sygates personal firewall both are free and work quite well.

I don't understand why McAfee would say that other than to get you to buy their firewall product instead.
Been using Zone Alarm Pro with Norton AV 2002/2003 for a while with no problems. Pro version of ZA has tracking feature to try and find the "bad guys" IP and track them down; kinda nice; newest version, 4.0 has a cache clearing feature also.
ZA also blocks most pop-ups, though you still gotta deal with the "flash" type stuff.
Basically, AV and software firewalls are user preferences. If you like what you have and it works for you, then stick with it.

about NAV, check corporate version, it's not so expensive, beside you have unlimited updates
Same here. If you're looking for software that has no conflicts with ZA, and does a good job of protecting your system, I definitely recommend Norton. IMO, ZA is a very good firewall. With the power to control the rights of each app, it's very handy.
I did some search , and find out that site ftp://agn-www.informatik.uni-hamburg...04/0xecsum.txt . According to the test here , best antivirus software is Mcafee.
I dont want to use Zone Alarm with Norton Antivirus , because it interfares with the system too much.
I shall give a try to Mcafee Internet security suite.

If you run a typical install of McAfee it will try to install its firewall software. This is probably where you are getting the warning. Do a custom install and be sure to uncheck the firewall install. Other than that, I have no problems running the 2 together. Using McAfee Home Edition with ZAP.
Hmm...I'm downloading NOD32 right now, I'm currently using NAV though and it's been working well, but if it's as fast as you say it is, then I'll give it a shot. Also, what forum is it? vBulletin is the name of a type of forum script...unless you're talking about the forum they have up on their site?Quote:

Not liking NOD32 so far, programs take wayyyy too long to load up because of the scanning, not sure if it's better that way but I can't live with taking an extra 10 seconds for each program to load up.
