WinXP and Direct3D Problems...
Hi, I am having a difficult time with my PC ever since I installed WinXP. Prior to installing WinXP is was using W2K and had no problems running any games or other Direct3D applications. However, once I installed WinXP, every time a Direct3D application is run my screen will either freeze up or my system will reboot automatically. I can't even use the 3D flower box screen saver without my PC locking up. I have also been using the Dxdiag tests as I have been trying to trouble shoot. The spinning cube will just show up, not spinning, look fragmented and my system will hang and I have to click reset. I have already tried the following:
- Used several different detonator drivers including the original drivers that came with the graphics card.
- Installed the latest Bios for my motherboard (KT7 version A9).
- Installed the latest 4-in-1 from Via, as well as reformatted and didn't install any 4-in-1.
- As an FYI, I don't overclock so heat related issues are not a factor.
The one thing I did try that got my system to work was that I have a 1.2 Ghz, 266FSB processor. I dropped the FSB to 100 in the Bios and my system didn't freeze when I tried the Dxdiag and flower box screen saver, as well as other 3D games. However, the games and other applications don't appear to run as well. I am thinking there has to be something else I can do or another fix that will allow me to run at the higher FSB speed. If anyone can provide me with any suggestions on how I might be able to fix my problem or let me know if I am just SOL, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
