I'm dissapointed...

I'm wondering how you guys overclock the XP2500? I brought my FSB to 169 without changing anything else. My motherboard sucks (MSI nForce 2 K7N2GL) so I have to reset my BIOS everytime overclock fails. So I'm wonering what Voltage, Multiplier, FSB you people use for your 2500s?

Anyway the reason I'm dissapionted because upgrading from XP1800 to XP2500 increased my 3DMark03 by 200. I really do think this extra L2 cache and FSB is ********. The only reason my performance went up is because of the 200 Mhz increase.

Right now I'm doing 11x179=1972. I don't want to up the FSB to 180 because my 333mhz ram drops to a 3.0 CAS at that point.

My CPU voltage is at 1.60V. Should I increase the voltage?

well 3dmark03 relies alot on your video card rather then your cpu... if you look at the benchmarks. as the higher the mhz go.. the points don't really scale with the mhz. so i wouldn't use that as a preformance measure. i would use 3dmark 2001. you'll see yyour marks scale alot better with that 3dmark program rather then the 2003 version.

if your cpu can't handle 1972, then yes up the voltage. go as high as 2.0vcore (if you have good cooling, its very important to keep your temps under 55degrees or you will fry your chip) if you don't get good cooling.. then i don't think you should raise your vcore anymore.

Stock vcore for the 2500 Barton is 1.65. I have mine upped to 1.775 and my vdimm upped from 2.6 to 2.7. I run my Barton solid (ie. Prime95 for 48hrs without errors) at 2230 Mhz.

Hrmph it's this stupid mobo. The voltage won't go above 1.800V. This board is very picky even though my temps are at 37C (SLK-800).

2500+ and an alk-800 seems like a waste on an MSI K7N2G-L :p Why don't you spring for an 8rda+? I'm sure you'll get a much better o/c on there.

The 8rda+ doesn't work with my harddrive for some reason.

Anyway here are my new settings:

10x200=2000MHz. Weird huh? But anyway the performance I great at this level. I score 5858 on 3Dmark03 with my 9800pro.

I think you're experiencing ram hiccups. Put the timings on expert (so you can manually change them) and then put 2.5-3-3-11 timings. That way your ram should have more leeway. Also, make sure that the ram is running at 100% and not some fraction of the FSB speed. Then see how high you can take the FSB (my guess is 180-190). Once you figure out the limit of your ram, go ahead and start pushing up the CPU speed by using the multipliers to test it out.

Here's what I did.

10.5 x 195FSB =2048MHz. 1.80V CPU. Everything else at default or auto. 36C btw. Thats the best I can do without adjusting different things like AGP and DRAM voltage. That's the part which I don't know what THAT does.
