My friend is looking for a good multifunction printer -Color Printer / Fax / Copier / Scanner. Anyone have any recommendations??
We have a Lexmark X63, it's PITA as it sometimes requires a reboot to print if it's not in the right mode. That's on the DO NOT buy list. I'd also like to avoid anything HP, since their ink tends to be the most expensive.

I wouldn't limit yourself to non-HP stuff because of ink prices, as the cartridges tend to last longer (from what i've seen).
With that said, I highly reccomend the HP PSC line of multifunction printers and scanners, and pretty much any other HP multifunction device.
I have the PSC 750 (old version but cheap) and it's been great to me.
I still own (and frequently use) my HP (PSC500). Have had it for 2-3 years. Haven't found the cartridges to be any more/less expensive than any other color all-in-one.
HP has very good accessories (It's their PC's I'd stay away from).
Go with HP.
I am also looking for a multifunction printer but I don't need the fax, just printing/scanning/copying.
At the staples near me there is an HP psc 2110 for about $200, which is right at my limit pretty much. I've also seen a canon MultiPass F20 for $230 and Lexmark/Epson printers for about $190. I don't want to have to pay real high ink costs down the road either.
Is the HP a good overall choice for printing and scanning quality and speed?
I would say that tomshardware.com has reviewed some of them.
My opinion is they are only good for one thing and that is space saving. To me printers and scaners that are seperate do better overall in quality of print and the scan.
I got a Lexmark X75 (i think it's like the 1150m now) really nice, good quality, great price. the ink is $30 or so for each, but i used those refill kits, way cheaper.
The x75 isn't a true copier. It's just a scanner and printer in 1 unit with 1 cable. You need to run it with a computer for copies.Quote:
