need some help ghosting a drive with ntfs

ok, i need to make a clone of 1 HDD to a new HDD and then take the old disk out and make the new one a master. in theory it didnt sound bad, but norton ghost only works with dos. both the drives are ntfs and obviously i cant change it to fat32 since you cant convert it back. so anyone have any ideas on how i can clone 1 drive to another without buying new software?

I thought norton ghost worked by copying it as a whole without regard to filesystem. Not sure but thats what I thought. Have you tried this?

nope, i tried ghosting with the maxtor maxblast software, but now all i get is a Boot Failure error and i can't log onto my original partition. how the hell can i fix this

the problem is norton ghost 7 will only work in dos. but when i use a boot disk to boot up in dos, it cant detect the hard drives because they are ntfs. :(

Just because DOS won't recognize your partitions and won't assign them a drive letter doesn't mean Ghost won't work. Ghost will work on any installed physical drive, whether there's a drive letter or not.

Boot to DOS and start Ghost. In Ghost, select Local > Disk > to Disk. You'll be able to select your source hard drive, even though it doesn't have an assigned drive letter. The same goes for the target drive.

lol, yeah, last night i was being kind of dumb... i was thinking i'm screwed because ghost was on a hdd and i couldnt access it. i mean i feel really stupid cause all i had to do was stick it on a floppy and run it when i was in dos :rooooooooooooleyes:
anyways, i was able to clone the drives with no problem after that :D
