As for the shim, the problem is that T-Bred and Barton cores have the little black lacquer box with the CPU information on it, instead of on the core like older models. This lacquer box rises slightly from the substrate...if you put a shim on top of it, the HSF will not contact the core on that side, and *poof* the CPU blows up. Trust me on this one. Either don't use a shim, or carefully remove the portion of the shim that would sit on top of the lacquer box.
Athlon HSF on the video card? It's a big effin' HSF - I wouldn't recommend trying it.
