Help with WinXP and Modem Lockup?

Hey guys, I have a problem with one of my work computers. Its a new system through harddrive.com and I is up and running great in our office. But I needed to install a Dail up modem on it, so I did, first it was a Aopen USB FM56-USB2, and randomly, I would say 2 out of 5 dails, it locks the entire system up just after connection. No mouse movement or error messages. After a reboot I might aswell flip a coin to know if it will connect properly. Anyways I tried another modem, a serial Viking 56K. And have the same problem. I dont see any conflicts, I tried the most rescent drivers for both. And im just stuck. We need this thing running ASAP! Any advice would be most appreciated. Im running WinXP Home.
