I have already installed windows 2k, clean install on my 30GB hdd at 7200 rpm, lets see how much this raises my score. additionally, I will insert my tbird and pally and try to get the top score for a tbird and pally. so far I think no one broke 10k on a 1GHz tbird with ti4200, maybe ill be teh first :cool: also I shall install the slk-800 afterwards for my tbred but thatll take hours and once I do, itll be permaent too. I will also be updating my sig


edit, my mistake, one guy has 10930 but 200fsb and a radeon 9700 pro....

it should take no more than an hour even if you have to take the MB out to install.

don't listen to the peanut gallery, take yer time and do it right, it is your first time with a cooler like this, so do it right.

thank you everyone but get this, I think my hard drive just died!!!!!!!! anyone have a clue when I was installing powerstrip all of a sudden windows 2000 got a bsod! yes a blue screen and said something about a physical memory dump then the comp froze, when I rebooted it, it would not detect my hard disk drive! Could my drive have died at such time? I even tried insalling my working drive(the one im using now, this is backup) as master and the bad drive as slave and it only reconized the master. Ive had that drive for like 3 years why must it die just now? I am going to have to buy a new hard drive, maybe even two, I think best buy has them 40GB maxtor drives for $40 after rebates. This would be my 2nd drive not working, first one I got used off ebay for a buck plus shipping. Probably he sold me a dieing drive, no wonder so cheap. the 2nd one is the maxtor one that worked fine till now. The broken maxtor drive spins but wont get reconized while the broken IBM drive is reconized but cant complete formation, there was an error.

the world is a fishbowl of choices, everyone wants a good deal, but common sense would/should flag the remaining brain cells that maybe, just maybe, a deal like this has some bad vibs coming yer way.

you got what you paid for, at least it worked for while.

if the maxtor is less than three years old, you can do the exchange thing, the ones they sold back then had a longer warranty, they could care less who owns it now.

the IBM drive may still be under warranty (doubtful, but.....), just go to IBM/Hitachi's website and punch in the serial number, it will tell you whatis.

you seem to be on a bummer run right now.

I bought another item from him too so shipping was combined. for a buck it was worth the gamble on the ibm drive but the maxtor drive I had for a while so that baffles me it would just die right now

Dam, last one i built must have taken me 4-5 hours. Of course I've only built a few and I go super slow and take my time. I saw a guy who builds these for a living, he put one together in about 5 mins lol. I couldn't believe it! :eek:

5 computers in 2 hours eh? That's 1 computer every 24 minutes. You're telling me, that you can take a brand-new, empty case, put everything into it (with nice, neat cable paths too), and install an OS? I dunno, but that seems to be awful fast, considering WinXP takes about 15-20 minutes to install (and that's a conservative amount of time).

I'm not saying it can't be done - because I saw a race on TechTV where they had a competition to see who could assemble a computer the fastest (the case had the power supply installed already, and they didn't have to install an OS). I think the fastest team (2 people on a team) got it done in about 8-9 minutes - But it was sloppy as hell, and not something you would ever just leave "as-is".

I'm just saying, that to build a single, nice computer, would take about 2 hours minimum - that's including the OS install. I've been building computers for almost 10 years now, and I've never spent just 24 minutes on one...
Let's put it this way...I wouldn't buy a computer from a place that only spent 24 minutes to put it together.

Granted, I don't think it should take 2 hours to put on a heatsink (unless you want to lap it) - but hey, he wants to make sure it's right the first time.

It all depends on how well you can assemble the system.. I dont always use ties but my cables are neat...

I dont like TechTV (well screen savers since they are nothing but a bunch of idiots!!!!)

But 2 hours to build 5 systems is nothing... No you cannot install the complete OS in that time frame.. I am talking about having it ready for an install of the OS... You know where you dont need to fiddle with the hardware again and you can button up the case...

I have been in the computer business for over 10 years now.. (give or take) I started out with building computers.. I dont even crack open the manual :D :D

if you have a full box and have to remove the mb to attach the heatsink, it is going to take some time, especially if you want to make sure of stuffs. mr tbirdy was refering to the heastsink attachment, bolt through on the board, not a ziff clip attachment. big difference.

time yourself for fun some afternoon, shut down yer system, and start working on it, remove the motherboard, mount the board bolts, attach said heatsink, reinstall carefully and make sure everything is hooked right.

a righteous job can take some time, certainly more than 24 minutes.

if he is eating while doing the deed, then it might take more than two hours, hehe.

and, not everyone here builds computers for a living or a side job, so moving through the inards of their prized machines usually takes much longer, the unkown and the unfamiliar make for much slower times.

Yeah, that would take some time. Of course, I'd probably try to keep everything plugged into the mainboard while I dismounted it... ;)

Psssshhhhhh...... you guys... it's not hard to put a machine together in 20mins... lol. What's so hard to believe? I do it everyday at work :p. No OS of course.


But If I were to built 5 of them WITH an OS (your choice), I can build them all In about 2 hours... 2.5hours max. ;).

If all the machines are identical, you really need to install the OS on one of them ;) :).
