Also do they now use the Nforce2 400?
For me the choices are (in AUD)
A7N8X non deluxe($150)
" " Deluxe ($236)
Epox 8RDA+ ($150)
Epox 8RDA3+ ($180)
ABit NF7-S v2 ($242)
I really only want to spend $150 but will go to $180 if its worthwhile.

I'm very happy with my 'plain jane'... just make sure you get rev 2.0 which shouldn't be a problem. Seems to overclock pretty stable, comes with everything you'de want or need.
North Bridge: NVIDIA® nForce2 SPP(Ultra 400)
South Bridge: NVIDIA® nForce2 MCP
well heres what you need to consider.Quote:

1:are you a major O/Cer(IE needs more than 1.85volts)
2: What kind of soundcard do you have?
If you thinking 1.85volts is good and have A1 or a TB sound card then asus IMO is a better choice.
oh yeah, the only problem is the onboard lan... it will not work at all for me or anyone else so far. Just pick up a cheap nic if you need one.
I do intend to OC but im no extremist so 1.85v should do.
Currently have a XP2200+(Tbred). It needs 1.65v to do 2G reliably and runs low 40's under load with stock cooling/Thermal pad.
I'll be very happy if i can get 2.3G out of it but i'l settle for 2.2.
For sound i have a couple of old Yamaha Xwave's(YMF724F-V) which are
good enough for my needs. they should work right?
A friend with a 8RDA+ also had a problem with the lan till finding out it wont work with crossover cables but its fine through a switching hub. I think i have one of those somewhere.
Otherwise i'll make do with some old 10base nic's for now.
Looks like its settled then. I'll get the ASUS pure after confirming its a rev2.
Thanks for your input.
my onboard lan works;)Quote:

lol ok so far of the people I have talked to your the first, you win the cookie :) but you also have the delux..
Lan working odds - 1/4
My epox lan works, and my Asus Non-deluxe rev 1.04 works. Mabey driver issuse?
theres a thread in here somewhere about it, two users seem to be getting a blue screen at astartup when they have any live cable plugged in to the onboard lan and they said the newer drivers didn't help their problems.
Mine seems to be a bit different... it will boot but when I try to setup any lan connections it will not recognize it at all and the light for my computer on the hub won't turn on :( I throw my linksys card in and it works np :)
I to have the delux version, never had a problem with my onboard lan. Here is a great site with alot of helpful info on most AMD motherboards AMDMB They have a whole section just for ASUS boards. hope it helps ya.
Oooh its smooth
Got it this afternoon(A7N8X-X). Not even a hickup so far.
Just one Q. is this ASUS probe very accurate?
Im reading 22C case and 27C CPU (2200+)for the last 30 mins.
In the old KT266 it would be reading about 34C. All I've done since then is removed the thermal pad from the stock cooler and used some white goop i got from a vantec aeroflow package. I know that pad is bad but that bad? its back to 26C now.
The cooler doesnt feel warm at all. I really hope thats accurate :D
no probe is not. Download speed fan, or MBM5:) And great to hear its workin well
I have the regular A7N8X, not sure what rev though and my onboard LAN works fine. These boards aren't extremely bad O/C'ers, i can take my 1800+ up to the max of 211mhz FSB at 1.85vcore
I have my 2400+ running on 220mhz fsb at 1.8v with memory ratio of 1:1 so it wourks :).
(P.S. screw the lan lol even if it didnt even have it on it I would still buy this board again it is great)
I broke it already :(
It was sweet for awhile. had the 2200+ up to 204fsb/2.26Ghz running benchmarks etc trying to find the right Vcore(over1.8 by now), then started getting crashes and eventually, no boot at all.
Up till now it would just reset to 100fsb if it failed to post on previous attempt but this time nothing.
It started to hang half way through bios post. Once i managed get in and drop the fsb down to 166Mhz. restarted and thats the last i saw of anything whatsoever.
I went to clear the Cmos but got ahead of myself and put the jumper straight over to the reset position without removing the batt first.
You think that killed it?
Ive done that before but its never killed a board.
Its definilty dead. Everything else works fine in the KT266 board which im back on now.
