Any firewall, hardware or software, that blocks port 135 will keep you from getting it. Once you connect without anything blocking it, you get infected again. Linksys boxes are like 50 bucks and worth every penny.
I believe virii can reside in memory. Try making boot discs with norton and have it do a scan at boot.Quote:

Install a firewall and turn it on prior to connecting if you dont have one then enable the XP firewall untill you have performaed updates and patches.
The problem stems from you connecting with port 139 open because there are so many systems still infected and seeking other systems it immediatly loads the virus onto your PC.
boot sector virus, try clearing the drive completely
I want to send the DUMBA$$ who did this a virus ,what an a$$hole.Somebody send that guy a virus that flashes his mother board bios, and leaves his little whiney *** without a computer,LOL!
I ran into this EXACT problem...but here it is. You don't actually have the virus. Once you reformat, your port is still open and this thing has a way of trigging the computer to shutdown without actually getting on your system, it could be someone on your network. You can either 1) run windows update to fix it or 2) block port 135 with the microsoft built in software firewall
A co-workers daughter just started college, took a brand new computer and set it up in the dorm. Within the first 20 minutes she had been infected with the blaster worm.
This is what happened to me when I moved into my dorm, but I didn't actually get the files on my computer, perhaps its some new variant.
i went to school today, they're network has gone to **** cause of Sobig, it seems to me that most schools are too stupid to pre-emptivily prepare for this stuff, especially if it's on CNN.Quote:
