Interenet Connectivety Problem
Ok, I know enough about networking to know that I don't know enough about networking
Hehe, but all joking aside, I'm having some connectivity issues. The problem is that im using a linksys 4-port wired router (befsr41) with my cable modem (dynamic ip). I have everything set up properly with my comp and router to detect the ip automatically. I have xp's inherent firewall disabled (i hear it can cause some problems with NAT and what not) and I use zone alarm pro (although my problems started before I started using zone alarm). Now everything works fine and dandy until I start using kazaa light. It will work fine for a little while, anywhere from 5min to an hour or so, and then I loose all connectivity. Kazaa can't connect, trillian logs out, and I can't pull up any web sites. I have tried to see if for some reason my IP changed mid session, but when I do ipconfig/all before and after I loose connection, the IP's are all exactly the same. I have all my ports closed off exept those neccesary for kazaa and my internet to work properly. Now, if I unplug my router for a couple of seconds and plug it back in, everything will work fine for a short period of time. However, none of this even happens unless kazaa is running. I would try to use some other file sharing software, however all the other ones piss me off with all the adware and spyware they come bundled with. And the ones that don't have that stuff don't work for crap. I really don't want to plug straight from my NIC to the modem because I prefer to stay behind NAT (haha blaster you can't get me!) I was reading somewhere about using a traceroute to figure out where the problem is occurring but I have no idea how to read that. Anyone have any suggestions/ideas? Or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and study up some more on networking.......oh yeah, and btw, im using the built in NIC on my mobo, not that I think that matters....
