Seen these things in a few places.. why don't people use them? Not sure exactly how it works. The end on your proc becomes super cold and the other side becomes super hot? Would it require water cooling for something like that or could you use air?

Unless it’s the big Swiftech heatsink/pelt kit, pelts require watercooling. While pelts are popular in the hard core crowd, most folks tend to steer clear of them. Why? Because if you don’t attend to every little detail, things fry.
IMHO, I would start with a start with a watercooled system first. Once you have it dialed in, then consider using pelts. Adding pelts to the equation without some basic watercooling experience usually just confuses things.

Took a look at the swiftech ones. They pretty neat, pelt is built into the hs so no messing around with it really, comes insulated for condensation. Only downside is they highly recommend an 80cfm fan.. tornado, 50db fan :(
Thanks for the info. Maybe something I'll look into oneday if I go watercooling. No computer upgrades though till I find a job~
Yeah - having a job would be nice. I know what you're saying - I've been broke since June 26th when I lost my last yob....
oh my god pelts are badass!! My friend and I put one on my GF3 Ti200 about a year back and ran it at 280MHz   (the stock speed was 175).
Anyway yeah, it was watercooled, you pretty much need watercooling because pelts don't JUST move the heat from one side to the other, they add a lot of heat of their own. They're only about 30-40% efficient. So a 70W peltier will move 70W and add like 100W to the hot side. Yowza. Actually I don't remember the numbers, I might be pulling those out of my *** so don't quote me... Anyway peltiers rule if you can handle them :D :D
