Does anyone ever hear radio channels on their speakers???

I was just wondering if Im the only one...

Sometimes, late at night when Im not listening to anything on my speakers (but they're on), I'll hear a very faint sound comimg from one or more of my speakers. If I put my ear right up next to it, I can make out that it's some radio channel - sometimes talk radio - sometimes music.

I imagine that the speaker wires are acting as antennas and picking these up. It was very strange when I first noticed this (about 3-4 years ago on a different set of speakers).
But it continues to happen to this day. Anyone else experience this?

I have the Altec Lansing 641's - a pretty decent set of computer speakers. However, they dont have the thickest gauge speaker wire...Typical among computer speakers...

I've noticed this on my old Reveal computer speakers. I think it has to do with poor wire shielding.

pretty much...

although poor wire shielding isn't always the cause...it just means that the power the signal coupled with other magical electrical properties have lined up perfectly and you can hear the radio station.

People with fillings and metal plates and braces occasionally get this too.

I used to get this with my old cheapo speakers sometimes.

i had that once with my guitar amplifier :p

Yes I got the AL 641's and have the same problem. :(

My roomie always complains about this. He can here them when he sleeps through his cheapo Compaq speakers. Of course I have no such a problem with my spectacular 5.1 5200's:D

I got a sort of similar problem in a set of headphones I use. I'm glad to find out that:

A) I'm not going crazy and
B) I'm not the only one hearing radio stations in my audio equipment

You must live very close to a radio transmitter tower. I had that problem once with my JBLs, I was hearing country station :( . I moved my comp to another part of the room and it never happened again.
