Has anyone here tried this?
On what card?
If so, are you still?
Why or why not?

Yes it really does cool very well on a 9800 pro and the fan with it is quiet
I just bought it along with a Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 Ultra.
I wanted a few opinions on the Zalman before installing it. All the reviews I had read were on older cards, nothing as new as the 9800. The 128 mb DDR Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 Ultra is a huge improvement over my 128 mb DDR ATI Raedon 7500 Excalibur!
There's NO fan with this.:confused:Quote:

I've got Zalmans mounted on both my cards. I've got a ZM80C-HP on my 9800Pro together with a Zalman fan - ZM-OP1. I've also modded my 9700Pro with the ZM90A-HP together with a 120mm case fan to actively cool it. It worked fine w/o a fan but I wanted max OC (managed to push my 9700P to 380mhz core) ;) :) I've got pics of both my cards here, feel free to take a look. Pics start at bottom of pg 1 and begining of pg2, they're a lil slow to load (sometimes) but it's free thanks to C man.:DQuote:

I had that heatpipe, I thought it did well... BUT... I didnt like that there was no fan, it did get very hot!!! I would buy another Zalman HP for my video card (but only the ones with the fan)...
This was on a 9700Pro, and IMO the 9800Pro gives off much more heat...
Not to mention I had to remove the silver metal shim to actually touch the core on the video card.. I didnt want it to be a thick layer of compound to just touch the core....
I think it sells without the fan, but there is a zalman fan you can buy specificaly for the vga cooler setup they have that mounts parallel to the card thats super quiet.Quote:

C man, I didn't know you had a Zalman modded 9700Pro. What brand is it and how high were you able to go after the mod?;) :D

But I had the 9700Pro (give from client :D) and when I upgraded to a Canterwood board it didnt work, so I went out the next day and bought a 9800 Pro.. then sold the 9700 Pro since I didnt need it...
The overclocking of that board wasnt anything special :( I tried the vmod but some reason it artifact even with a extremely low voltage :(
I did install a nice 120mm fan in my case to blow directly across the heatsink...
The scores I believe was:
378/330 - Stock cooling
392/330 - With heatpipe :)
So I gain about an extra 15Mhz with it :)
Damn, just about everybody's ATI cards OC better than mine with stock cooling! But the Zalmans are helping with my OC, for example :Quote:

9700P used to choke at 350-355 core, now with HP, got it to 380mhz for about 25-30mhz gain;)
9800 choked at 436 and above with stock cooling, but managed a 455 for my OC with the HP;) - 20mhz gain , 'course this is lower than some of you guys with those cards that can OC like bat outta hell with stock cooling. Guess we make do with what we have. :D
You should really add a nice additional fat fan to blow across the card to a few extra Mhz :) Just for benchmarking :)
And see what you can get :) Plus push that CPU overclock more!!! If it does fry, what you can get a new one rich man :D
Yeah, when I first saw that picture, I was like, "Mother of God."
