after playing bg2(that was my first rpg ever), i couldn't stand planescape torment...i'm not sure if any rpg will ever compare to bg2 in my mind...:( i got at least 50 hours out of bg2, and prolly 80 including throne of bhaal but that's very rough estimates...
graphics: bg2
gameplay: bg2
depth: can't say, quit planescape torment, got bored with it
longetivity: same
sound: bg2
As you can tell, i'm very biased towards bg2 and throne of bhaal....the story line of bg2 is just phenominal! have fun!:D
there both good, But I loved Bg's one the best.
They're both great, but I liked BG2 a bit more. Ps:T is very dialogue oriented...perhaps too much so. Were it to have BG2's combat system, at the least, that'd be great, but it's got a cumbersome interface and awkward combat. BG2 to me comes as close to a perfect mix of dialogue and combat as I've seen in any game.
Get both, the games are so different in game play and setting that they both are well worthwhile playing through.
50 hours, are you kitting? It's a 150+ hours game! Damn rough...Quote:

Anyway, each one have their good points and it would be hard to pick one as the best. But I can say that PS:T has a damn good and special story and BG2 is more fun to play.
But both should be played.
And Fallout of course :D :p
i thought it was longer.....but i thought 100+ was way too long and i would get publically riduculed for saying that...i really wasn't sure...
Planescape= 640x480
BGII= 1024x768
get BGII ;)
they are both bad to the bone, just BGII is easier on the eyes on a larger monitor.
I figured you didnt do a single side quest or something...Quote:

Anyway, as Wurm says, they really are two different games, you can get through most of Planescape with very little combat, whereas in BG2 the combat is an essential part of the game.
My opinion?
They are both fantastic games, and I absolutely loved the world created in Planescape Torment, but overall, I say BG2 is the more enjoyable game.
Oh, you little bastard, now look what you did! Here I am, reinstalling BG2...
im a console rpger by heart... but bg2 is one of the finest pc games ever
I really can't see how anyone can like BG2 so much. I'm a big RPG gamer, and I ever enjoyed BG1 for a bit. I just got BG2 a few weeks ago, and I'm totally unimpressed with it. I estimate that 50% of the time I've put into the game has been waiting for my character to walk from one side of the screen to the other. I kept playing away trying to get out of the first town, before I skimmed through some FAQs and came to a realization - the game mainly takes place in this town! At least the first game had some feel of adventuring.
There's too many pointless pots and whatnot to look into, most of them being empty or having 1 gold. There's tons of useless dialog with townspeople, and even the dialogue that has to do with something takes forever to go through. And the town is 10x bigger than it needs to be to fit everything in it, which means that you have to wait 15 seconds to talk to the next person while your characters slowly move across the map.
I was looking forward to an improved game, but they took the flaws from the first (slow walking, large areas, etc.) and made them worse. I started playing Fallout 1 again instead, and it is a good example of how big towns should be and how many useless NPCs there should be (and how easily they can be distinguished from the common folk).
okay...you view things from the flip side(that's fine, not dissing)...i view that as them making a world that you can become a part of, having many npc's and trying to create daily life. how fun would it be if you looked into a pot and pulled out a +5 longsword everytime? dialogue is what sets the story up and gives detail, that's why bg2 has one of the best story lines out there.:D
The thing was, I hated BG1 for the exploring. I don't care how many xvarts are in some forest, I'd much rather be tackling the sewers or dealing with the thieves guild. Yeah, most of it does take place within the city, but there's plenty outside too (Windspear Hills, Umar Hills, D'arnise Keep, and Tradesmeet to name a few). But then again, it really is whatever floats your boat.
As for the town being bigger than it needs to be...it really isn't. Pretty much every building in town is either part of a quest or a shop (seriously...every building, except one or two that were parts of quests that got cut out). Name one...and there'll be some random NPC quest that goes with it.
