Hey guys, I really wanted to hit around 1500 bucks. As you can see, I'm 300+ over budget... :(
AS long as I can safely OC(on air) to 3-3.2 Ghz I would consider
a 2.6C or even a 2.4C processor. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Also what about a heatsink for the CPU? Using stock?
I was thinking about a Swiftech MCX4000... Not sure about which fan though. Ideas?
The MCX4000 with a Smart Fan II seems to be a very popular choice...

Sine the Chenming case has 4 fans in it I would like the HSF combo to be reasonably quiet.

Get a 2.4C maybe?:) I would get a new PSU though. Why don't you make that Chenming case selection an Antec, that way you will get a quality PSU for the same price.:)Quote:

Wait until later to buy your new monitor and maybe look at a different brand of 9800 pro. I just bought another made by ATI 9800 pro on ebay for $290. There are some good deals out there.Quote:

get rid of that generic chenming powersupply, and get an antec truepower or nice enermax.
is that the 256mb version of the r9800 pro? get the 128mb version then...it'll save you a few bucks and performance will be exactly the same...you could also probably get an 80gig hard drive for around $80 and while it'll be slower than the raptors...it'll save you money...and you can get an asus P4C800-E for $190 at newegg or a DFI Lanparty PRO875 for $186...although that doesn't shave off $300 it does shave off something...
I think its the 128MB version.. The 256MB version is still over $400... The Hercules has about a $30 markup over Built By ATI products... Not bad for a nice looking card :)
I agree the powersupply is going to suck in that case...
You can save money by getting (1) Raptor... I know RAID sounds sweet, but you are trying to save :D
How about 256MBx2 for now and get another 256MBx2 down the line????

Plus I think you have a better chance of pulling a slab of steak from a rabbid dog then you do with having him switch from the MAX3.. He has been drooling for that for months.. And I think there is no swaying!!! :D :D :D

Yeah, you're right about the Max3, that's non-negotiable!
You are also correct about the Herc 9800Pro - it is the 128 meg version-Gawd its beautiful...:D
Good idea on the ram, I'll just get 2 256meg sticks but I'm staying with Corsair. I suppose I can squeek by on 512 megs.:(

I was afraid of that...It's just the case looks really nice.
I looked at Antecs and Thermaltakes-guess I'll look some more.
The Antec I liked didnt have a PS and it was 99.00 too.

I looked at Antecs but the nice looking tower w/acrylic side panel had no PS and it was the same price as the Chenming...
I'm not familiar w/Chieftec...
Go with 2.4C to shave $100 off and then go with 9800 np to shave $150 off! :eek: I also still recommend Antec PSU. PSU is by far one of the most overlooked important piece of hardware.
