all i know is i want to get a dvd burner prolly the sony on newegg for about $170 after that i am open for suggestions....it will be used for some gaming not much, alittle video editing.... mostly surfing the web and everyday use... overclocking isn't a real big issue but may be nice down the line... thanx for you info....

All these prices were taken from new egg cause i'm lazy. If you shop around you can drop the prices a little.

I recommend getting a dvd+/-rw so you can go either route the standard does.

That pioneer dual format for $169 is a top notch drive. I have a single format (-) 4X pioneer burner and I love it. One of the best investments in this computer I made.
i have the pioneer (-) too. i really like it...but i wouldnt say it wass the best investment i have ever made....i bought it too early
yeah i was also wondering about he liteon dvd+-rw... any have it?
I know the pioneers are good and so are the sony's but for the price the liteon seems nice....
from all the reviews i have read(including those on newegg) it is a good dvd burner. i have seen few comments saying it has failed a burn or two, but usually liteon makes quality products.
As always I recommend not buying HD off newegg. Check your local Best Buy, Staples, or CompUSA and grab a 7200rpm 8mb chache drive for ~50 cents per gb. Usually have your choice of maxtor or WDse.
About LiteOn drives, they rate their drives at the max (rim) read/write rate instead of the average like they should. So a LiteOn burner that proports to burn at 72x should really be rated at around 54x. Also, unless you use media that LiteOn specifically likes, the burner often lowers its speed to around half that (so 26x in this case) to prevent buffer underruns. Basically, this means that as long as you don't mind to burn at 26-30x on a burner that says it is 72x, then you should be fine with that drive.
Also note, some LiteOn drives don't work with certain DVD burning software. Although this is expected to be fixed in the future.
i think i might just stick with the sony... does any one know how good the optorite dual burners are? i thought newegg had them for about 140 dollars...
yeah i think i am goin to go to my local staples or best buy and get the hard drive... i just don't like dealing with the rebates but oh well it is worth it.
i will probably go with the amd system, barton 2500 and i think i will get the abit NF-7 S. will i notice and speed jump from pc2700 to pc3200 aslong as i run the memeory in synch and don't overclock... i am thinking about the kingston hyperx pc2700. I will most likely go with the 9600pro as i don't do much gaming but will be handy to have a decent directx9 card.
Can anyone recommend a nice case\psu. I know newegg has some antecs for a nice price any other brands worth considering in the sub $100 range.

I'd grab the pc3200.... gives you some head room for down the road if you do decide to overclock or upgrade your system again. Cases are more of a personal preference. Most cases in the ~$100 range are basically all the same (most of those will be the old alienware style cases). Grab yourself an aluminum case that has enough room for some decent airflow and you'll be set.
My sonata case is awesome and comes with an excellent power supply. If you want to make your system as silent as possible (not sure your environment) then think about a good CPU cooler ($40?) and possibly the passively cooled 9600 Pro Ultimate ($50 more than normal one). WD drives are LOUD. Seagates and Samsungs are much quieter. Antec is coming with a new case that has better cooling than the sonata but doesn't look quite as cool.

You also may want to consider a NEC 1300A DVD Burner. It is the latest rage on the DVD sites. Mine works awesome, but is loud when in spools up.
