Hi, I just bought a new Vantec 18" Dual rounded Cable for my Lite-on 52x32x52 CD-RW and a Liteon 16x DVD-Rom.....but it turns out that I can't burn anything with my CD writer~~~
and when I switch it back to the normal IDE cable (no the rounded one, the very old one)
then it works again~~ @@
does anyone know why is that??

I would assume that since the Vantec IDE cable is clearly labelled that you have made the proper connections. With that in mind, and by the process of elimination, it appears that you have already found the answer to your query and have effected the proper measures to correct it.
Sounds like a bad cable. Try using the new cable on another IDE controller and see if a similar problem manifests.

Yeah, I have already tried with two Vantec rounded cables, and none of them work with my burner, but works with my HDs.
Could it be that the burner is not fast enough to connect it with the ATA133 cable?? coz the normal IDE cable I have is a ATA100

Tha ATA133 cables are supposed to be backwards compatible and should run your optical drives as well as your hard drives. Visually compare the pin configurations on the connectors to see if they are any different. Either way if the won't run your burner then it doesn't matter.
What do you mean by backwards compatible? Does it mean that I have to connect the ATA133 cable backwards (the blue color becomes master, and the black color end goes onto the motherboard) ??Quote:

I've been informed from Vibe's techinician saying that the cable won't be a problem for my CD-RW, but there should be a problem if the cable exceeds 18", is that true?? Coz I am using the 24" cable now, and unluckily I do not have any 18" cable for me to try it out.....

the maximum rated length of ide cables is 18". anything exceeding this length is out of specification and can/will cause problems. I recommend an 18" cable.
Hmm.....bad news....I just bought a 18" Vantec rounded cable, and it still don't let me burn anything from Harddrive. (Forgot to mention this before, it was able to burn from CD to CD when I used the rounded cable)Quote:

So what could be the problem here then....since I can burn from CD to CD, but not from HD (I tried with different files already, none of them worked). And I don't think that it's my Lite-on CDRW's problem too....coz it can still burn CD to CD.

Your choices here are few.
Either use the cables that work or try other cables.
I can't speak for the quality of the Vantec cables, especially at those lengths.
Make sure that you are not using CS (Cable Select) on any of the drives. They should be designated as Master and Slave via the proper jumper settings.
