Fast technology progress is crazy... U cant be happy anymore

I really hate this.. you buy a top Hardware best specs PC and after 3-6 months another BIG advancement is here...

in the past a PC lasted for 5 years without major change now what ever you do or buy it is a short priod of "I have a cool PC"

not only that... no the fast progress makes u DELAY new pc purchase... for example... I was looking forward to buy the P42.8 with I875 and ATI9700PRO AIW... after only 2 months when I was ready the ATI9800proAIW came out so I stopped... reconsidered .. suddenly I noticed the articles about the new AMD64 coming the next month ANOTHER DELAY...

I was ready to buy them at last the bundled MSI mother board with AMD64 (for 570euro=mobo free) went to the market to look around and made my mind to buy the next day

I went online and discovered about the new ATI9800XT and that the 9800pro is lower cool THEN...

a new stupid thing in my face BTX form factor next 6 months AND NOT ONLY THIS NO the PCI-EXPRESS and that ATI is releasing one soon

now I cant spend 500$ on a VGA card and throw it away when the P5 with PCI express motherboard comes out. it is a 500$ card and should stay for at least 3 years
sadly the PCI express mobo does not have the AGP slot

so I dropped the whole IDEA and DELAYED my Upgrade AGAIN to be BTX and PCI EXPRESS VGA CARD

another thing also, the RAPTORS they are adding a 72GB raptor 10krpm this means I cant get my raptors now I was going to buy 2 of the (36G)but now I must wait...I hope they dont say theyll release a bigger one at that time

I am happy I didnt buy my system cos the 8x DVD-+r are here but man what If I bought the machine a month ago (OUCH)

how about 16ms and 20ms LCD??? I read that LG is devoloping a 12ms LCD which will be in the market soon "ouch"

I am sure in 2010 u ll see a new tech every month MAN this is crazy


maybe INTEL , NVIDIA, ATI , AMD and others are the cause of this.. they have the tech and they hide it giving it out drop by drop

I have the feeling that in the past when they discovered somthing they send it out to the market in two ranges low and high but the high was really all what they have I mean unlike now, they increase memory speed and clock drop by drop etc while they could done it b4 from the start (no new tech really)

I hate this ATI9700pro then 9800pro then XT thing while they have the tech and parts from the beginning

same for INTEL AND AMD.. now come on 2.4, 2.53, 2.6, 2.8, 3, 3.2

I bet they can give us the P5 NOW and remember, the EE is orignally a one year old xeon (2mb cache)

why not from the start...

I hate this...

and believe me it is not price thing cos THEY PUt AND CONTROL THE PRICING

bottom line "u cant be happy any more" and cant say "I have a cool PC"

I agree with everything else, and it's pretty accurate. Except that statement. I have NEVER known a PC that lasted more than 6 months since I had one of my first Pentium 75MHz machines. That seems to be the typical product cycle. Every 6 months we have a piece of *new* technology, and every 12-18 months a complete overhaul.

I must agree. A little over 1 year ago my video card was the fastest thing money could buy, now look at her. She just sits there in her chair, rocking back and forth, hell, I have to feed her through a straw!

But yeah, technology flys man :( and :)

I was talking about 386, 486 period..

this crazyness began with Pentiums

and I know it is an INTEL strategy not releasing the fastest possible clock speed and delaying it...making u hungry and more hungry

work.. and spend...

why else would i go from a 8500 => ti4600 => 9700pro => 9800pro

That's why i don't buy the "latest and greatest", i buy the next best thing or something i can afford that'll still do what i want. I'm not obsessed with having the fastest machine on the planet and don't dwell over 3d mark scores to the point where it's the only reason i even have a computer.(i dont use any benchmarks for the record)

Wow... this whole "computer" thing is addictive... and I heard that the EM waves cause cancer. Hmmm, who can we sue?

ditto. i put my tbirdy 1400mhz machine w/aiw 32mbddr together back in summer 2001 and before that I had a p2/233 w/aiw 128. The only reason I decided to rebuild it was because my new AIW 9700p (that I got for a very good bargain) didnt like my old mobo very well. Poor people like me cant afford the latest and greatest every 2-6 months. Im going to buy an xp3200+ when the prices fall some and not mess with anything for 2 or 3 years unless absolutely necessary. :cool: :o

I agree with Top Ramen, buy what you can afford and be happy with it. A year ago I had a fairly fast system, but not anymore, but it does what I like at incredible speeds and I am happy with it. Benchmark wise it is a pooch, but who cares, as it runs the games I like to play for now, so no upgrades for me yet.:p

Hey dude I built my comp a month and a half ago and it's already starting to be outdated.

Well these companies need to slow down, but it does not look like they want to.

ATI and Nvidia need to only release one set of video cards per year.

If Moore's law still works we will have 10ghz chips in like under 5 years.

It is nuts and we all know some people want all the FPS they can get, but it is not worth it though.

I think a lot of you confuse not being top of the line with being outdated...

Also, when buying, I think some of you can get a little closer the high end. I know you gotta save money but like an extra $50 isn't gonna break the bank if it gives you enough power for 3-6 months.

Not to single anyone out but if you guys are running the systems in your sigs...

sna I have the same cpu and I bought it shortly after it was launched... a geforce3 was nowhere near the top considering the geforce4 ti4200 wasn't even top of the line

xp18004life - same deal as sna, a little over 1 year ago that geforce3 was definitely not the fastest thing money could buy (pretty much exactly a year ago I got the ti4200 which had been out for a good amount of time)...

Well maybe my dates are wrong, sorry. When I built my rig though, the GF3 was the fastest on the market, and I hadn't heard of the Ti4200, otherwise I'd have one :)

Actually, I think it was at the end of my senior year in high school, and now I'm a soph in college.
