Well I got an Audigy card from my brother because he wasn't using it and I went out to buy some Z-340s today and ended up getting the Z-640s since the price difference was only $30. I went through the little Audigy setup program and made sure all the channels were correct. What game should I try to convice myself that this was worth it? Also Does most DVD player software support 5.1?
all dvds have 5.1, i'd test it with unreal2k3 and watch that one scene in swordfish where he blows up the city block with claymore mines. :) for music, make sure ccms is enabled.
Pinchy, PowerDVD does not come with 5.1 capability by default.
I found this out the hard way.

err....should be under eax console.
Wouldn't going through the movie setup and enabling 5.1 sorround force PowerDVD to also enable it??? The concept of a DVD player with no 5.1 :eek:Quote:

PowerDVD by default does not come with the "6 speaker" option by default, it comes with a 5, IIRC, which is the equal to 4.1 sound.
I find CMSS2 boosts sound and enables use of the surround speakers when listening to music. (mostly lows) I thin CMSS1 is more neutral. Basically all it's doing is acting as a simulated surround and that would screw up the discrete surround effects of EAX in games.Quote:

See if you like CMSS for music and definately leave it OFF for games.:)

Enabling CMSS on EAX games or DVD's is like enabling some crappy "simulated surround" function at the same time as Dolby Digital.;)

A lot happier about my A2 purchase now. Had it set at CMSS 1 for the whole time.

I'm a little confused by it. I have z-680s and the A2, does this mean I should just leave it off all the time for games cause they all have EAX? Some games that have the option for EAX when I go to enable it, there's no sound, is it cause of CCMS?
Some games have EAX, some don't. It'll usually tell you in the readme file, the box, or the in-game options. If the game has EAX, leave CMSS off. If the game doesn't have EAX, feel free to experiment with CMSS. When a game has EAX and CMSS is disabled, you'll get sound out of the rear speakers. If there's no sound from the rear, then either something is wrong or it is not an EAX game. If you use CMSS with EAX games, you should get sound out of the rear speakers but it will be a blend of EAX and CMSS. This is not favorable. (bad sound effect imaging/placement)Quote:
