Klipsch Quintet Subwoofer

A while ago, for my birthday, I recieved a Klipsch Quintet Microsystem (think Promedia 5.1 with bigger tweeters, double woofer center). Anyways, I eventually picked up a Panasonic reciever (not exactly high end, but I'm a college kid, now, so, it is good enough) and a Yamaha CD changer which I output via optical. Anyways, the Quintet doesn't come with a subwoofer by default - they do recommend the Klipsch KSW-10, which I have heard great things about. Any other sub recommendations as the KSW-10 MSRPs for $400 and that is a bit pricey, atm?

I have the older version of the 10 inch Mirage sub (FRX-S10) and it ROCKS.:eek: :D

Get an Klipsch RW-8 or RW-10, those match the Quintets VERY well. Stay away form the KSW's, they are boomy, very colored, slow, and do not go very deep at all. (Only KSW that goes deep is the KSW-15, but for the same price, you could buy the RW-12 which would stomp it)

I would personally get the RW-10.

Subwoofers is one of the most important parts of a HT, and also is the only speaker that you dont need to match with you set. That said I think you should be checking brands like SVS or HSU, the offer the best bang for the buck when it comes to good true subwoofers, but they are not cheap, they start around $500.

That said, there are a lot of good companies that make good subwofers like Velodyne, Adire, including the JBL 120 SII has gotten great reviews lately by Tom Nousaine.

True, but I only said what I said because the Quintets are very finiky with matching subs. They only seem to like the Klipsch subs for the most part. Now something like the Cinema 6 or RF-7's, hell..grab that SVS or Velodyne and have some sub-sonic nirvana.

If a few years time, I'll get one of these when I upgrade my whole hometheater system.;)
