is there a snowballs chance in hell msi would throw me a 5900UT for my ti4200? seems to be getting flaky lately, pink desktops, green icons once in a while...the header is messed up. monitor plug wont plug in all the way cause its sorta deformed, i just bought the thing a tad over a month ago maybe. if they wont give me a 5900ut ill just keep it, 5600 would probably be worse.

Well I sent in my dead TI4600 a while ago, and they tossed me a FX5900SP which would probably be what they would send you. Its basically a 5900 nu with some snazzy features, huge cooling, and 256 RAM. The memory is kinda clocked slower than the reference non ultras though... But I overclocked it easily to Ultra reference settings. Will they send you an ultra? Its a possibility, but I am just telling you what they gave me. They may also send just the 128 version which for some reason has a higher memory clock but costs less... Still, this card is better than a 4600, and it should eat your 4200. Go for it man.

filling out an rma request form now, under "symptom" i put "vga function fail", i dont think its a lie...pink desktop and reboots seems to me like a fail of the vga function.

let me know what you get as soon as you can. I will 100% get an msi card overclock it until it dies then say "oh it's screwed up" for a FX5900.
So I'm a bad kid, your still paying $100 for a 5900 ;)
Well heres what they will do, they will tell you that they can replace it with a 5600 with 256 ram. I called them and asked them if they could do anything better than that because the 5600 is worse than the TI4600 in most cases. They called me back and said they would send me a TI4800SE now or I could wait for 2 weeks and theyed send off a 5900. Of course...i think experiences could vary, I wish you good luck.

I have a gainward 64mb golden sample... then one with the bad capacitors... and I was thinking, would gainward throw in a new badass 5900 if I told them my card was flipping out in high stress situations? I might try talking to tech support this week, maybe they will cut a deal with me if I sound pissed enough.
well they got the card 3 days ago, and i havent heard anything (email, phone) so i'm not sure what to do....wait cause maybe a tech didnt get to it yet, call them and ask about it...stfu and wait...id much rather have a ti4200 than a 5600, ultra or non ultra...

called to check rma status and they said my rma will be sent out within 4 or 5 business days, what does this mean? they fixed it or what? lots of info from these guys.
Maybe you'll get a 5700 that would be about the equal of the 4200 when you bought it
that would be awesome....but i get the feeling they're gonna end up sending me a 5200...or 5600, ill just keep it unopened, call em up and ask them for something else....tell em i didnt even open it cause its such a bad card LOL
edit to add: also these companies figure people are stupid and will be more than thrilled to get a 5200 in rturn for a 4200, thinking people dont know the skinny on these cards...

Only last week i checked out a new PC store in my area who's owner was trying to tell me the 5200 is faster than a ti4200 and the matrox parhelia is the fastest card available.
Then he top's it off by telling me i shouldnt belive magazine reviews cause they're bias. And...
