What DVD+/-R media do you use?

I'm thinking of picking up a DVD+/-R drive for Christmas, but looking at the prices of media which on average is 5 bucks a disc.

Anyways, picking one up is inevitable so I'm doing some early research here.

What are quality discs?

Choices:

Your looking in the wrong place. If you go to somewhere like www.cdrdvdrmedia.com they cost about $1-$2 ea in spindles. These are fairly good quality. The cheap ones I would stay away from are less than $1. I see some on there for $0.67ea in bulk. For some reason I do not trust the Princo much but I have never used them. Ritek and Beall are good. Even their super quality TDK Armor DVDs are only $4.19ea in a 10 pack. Those IMO are the best money can buy. Just about any media store online will cost about the same.

I use TDK or Memorex 4x DVDs and get them about $1 each in packs of 25 or 50 when they are on sale and/or have rebates at BestBuy, Comp USA, or Office Depot.

Right now Office Depot has a $49.97 for 50 disks (either + or -) sale going that requires two coupon codes that are in one of the other threads here (http://www.sharkyforums.com/showthre...hreadid=211456).

a ronin- Just to verify (because I'm looking at your location), you're talking canadian $ or US $?

Regardless, if you're in Toronto, it may be worth it to pick them up in the US on one of these deals. Hopefully someone from the great white north can help you a bit more with canadian prices :(

Yes, I am in Toronto and those are in CND. Those prices listed are pretty consistant and pretty much the going rate. I'll try one of each to see which brand are compatible with my equpipment then decide to buy in bulk.

Hopefully by Xmas, prices for both the burner and media will be more reasonable.

right now using memorex and fuji with my hp300i. i usualy can find a deal for under $1 a disk with rebates and coupons.

Is it just me, or are the Ritek G04s really cheap at newegg? 55 bucks for a spindle of 50. DVD-Rs.

glad i cheked here. i just ordered the NEC 1300 dual burner from newegg for $100 shipped. i hear the firmware update fixes some incompatability problems with media, so now im on the hunt for decently priced media. before when i bought stuff from others all they used was princos and i have yet to have a problem with them working so i may go with that but this thread definately helps.

don't know if it applies to DVD's but since DVD media reviews aren't easily available, i'll just go with the assumption that, if they make good CD-R's they prolly make good DVD-R's.

i agree with, you get what you pay for. don't get something ridiculously cheap(er) as it's quality is probably inferior. esp if you are using discs for backup.

Having tried tons of the damn things the best I have found quality/price are definately "BulkPaq Orange 4X DVD-R". They just don't fail.

Yeah, but look at the drive you are using. the Pioneer can burn just about anything you insert. That is not true with most other DVD drives.:D :D
