Does anybody have any idea...

on how overclocking a CPU could corrupt my Windows system file? And how I can avoid corrupting it? I'm really lost here...my last two attempts have ended like this and I want to remedy it. Yes, yes, I lowered the multi, raised the FSB a bit etc., I didn't do anything that hasn't worked in previous overclocking attempts. Should I bring up my vCore? Also getting BIOS errors...(long beep codes):confused: (I especially want to know because I think I have a pretty good chip...when I first built my comp I got a 200 mHz overclock easily and 400 mHz after that...but with no vCore increase so it crashed...)

windows corruption occur when data is loaded into memory and written back incorrectly or incorrectly loaded into memory, even. Or if the cpu screws up the process of loading or operating windows. Just go slow and make sure it's stable by running 3dmark for an hour or prime95 for a few hours, or even better, game for a few hours on it. Then bump it up a little more. Don't worry, i've hosed windows before too, it's not fun.;)

Raising the vcore helps when you're raising processor speed. Also you could try raising the vdimm when overclocking the fsb as well as raising the ram timings. Good luck!:p

OH, i did leave out one thing, make sure if you reformat/reinstall windows, you do it at stock speeds...also, the beep codes mean that you're gone too far and need either more voltage/raised timings, or one or more of the components can't handle those speeds.

Well, I had only begun to overclock...I dropped the multi to 8 and raised te FSB like 5 mhz...so it can't be that I went too far. I don't see how that would require more voltage or rasied timings. THe components not being able to handle a 5 mhz increase doesn't seem too likely either. Maybe I should go to an Abit forum...hmmm...*gets out magnifying glass and pipe..."come, watson"*;) (ok, that was pretty stupid)
