when i first Oc'd my barton 2500 to 200x11, i didnt change the volts and everything ran fine... later i put my voltage to 1.75 and things seemed to be fine until while i was playing a game and my pc shut down [from the sound/smell, when this happened i thought for sure my cpu was done for]
-when i restarted my cpu temp was only 38c,
however, now that its back at 1.65volts with a 200x11 OC, everything seems fine again
but isnt 1.65volts kinda low for a 200fsb?
Whats wrong with having stock vcore at 200fsb, as long as you have no problems, I wouldn`t worry about it. Although you might be worried about what could have caused it to do that at 1.75v`s vcore, where did the smell come from, I hope it wasn`t your power supply. Edit to add: could you describe the sound.

That`s OK, I just thought it would be like a pop or something, this might sound funny but I would smell around and see if you can pinpoint where it came from, also check out the Caps on your MB and see if any of their tops are discolored or leaking. I myself have never heard of just raising the vcore that much cause what you described(sp). So it might be something going out and worth finding out what.Quote:

could also have been that one of your hard drives screwed up... that would make a loud gridning/metallic sound for a second and then it could cause you to reboot if you were using that drive... happens to me all the time on this crappy old maxtor drive i have... i'll be loading something and then the drive will shut off and come back on, but the system will reboot itself.

I wish my Barton 2500+ will do 3200+ on stock vcore.
That's odd that you heard that sound, but it was likely just your hard drives. Mine do that sometimes. And as for the smell... well, that's weird, lol.
But if it's working fine now, don't worry about it. Also, run the least volts you can at a specified speed.
Odd, my 2500 hit 3200+ first try as soon as I installed it at stock. Have had it running ever since, still stock, good temps (under 43C load), retail cooler. Hard to beat that for $90.
feeling my 2 out-take fans [a side 80mm fan and a rear smart fan 2] the air coming out is pretty warm....should it be this way? [but my temps still say 35-39c]
the exhaust fan air is supposed to be warm, that's why we have them, to get that warm air out of the case...:p
Sounds like a sound I'd sometimes gotten at boot when I'd overclocked too much with not enough Vcore. What was werid was that when I hit the reset button and rebooted again the sound pretty much went away.....Quote:

I don't want to start a flame war. There are MANY people on this forum much more knowlegable than me. I built my system in May of this year with an earlier 2500 Barton. I wanted to be certain that it would pass Prime95 running for 24 hrs straight. To do that required my vcore being increased to 1.775 from 1.65 and vdimm to 2.7 from 2.6. It runs solid at these settings. I've had Prime95 running 48 hrs without a hitch.
My point? Running Prime95 for an extended period allows you to truly see if you machine can stand up to the rigors of a hot game running for awhile. Being able to boot into windows is just that, being able to boot into windows. I realize Prime95 isn't the sole authority on stability, but it's a much better test of the stability of an overclocked machine than simply "being able to boot into windows".
Well said. Many people assume that being able to boot into Windows means stability. For me, stability means at least 2 hours of non-stop gaming, 24 hours of Prime95, and Folding@Home running THE ENTIRE TIME. Without rebooting. :DQuote:

Personally, I'm been priming 242FSB 1:1 2-2-2-11 (with my vdimm at 3.26v :eek: ) for about 14 hours now... (yes 3dmarkers, fear me, fear me :D) I'm sure I will be able to 3dmark at 250FSB after a bit of burn-in...
I have got differant results then you did, I could do everything run prime 95 overnight with no errors play all my games and everything else on my computer, but It would not run 3D Mark at those settings at all and that is with my video card at stock speeds.Quote:
