Is this game still popular? Having played through Awakening, I fell in love with the graphics and weapons. I've also recently discovered the developers, are located RIGHT HERE in my own city which is cool because I plan on possibly making a map/level for it.
I'd like to guage some sense of how strong the multiplayer scene is with this game, otherwise it may not be worth it. Am I also correct in assuming it's purely a MP game with no SP?
It is still very popular. There is a single player mode, but its mostly just a bot match. A "community map pack" was released just yesterday that includes a bunch ov really purdy maps. :)
In all seriousness, was it ever popular? I remember reading somewhere awhile back that Epic said not even 15% of the sold copies ever appeared for online play (going by CDKeys). I personally couldn't stand UT2003, it just felt entirely too slow paced. It seemed like it was more about eye candy more so than anything else, surely they weren't focusing on gameplay :p
I luv UT2003, I play SP only, you can say I like to play with myself....no, wait, that wasn't right! I like to play BY myself is what I was shooting for.:p :D It's perpetually installed in my rig, it's one game I never get tired of.:D
I'm convinced. I'll pick up a copy. Digital Extremes, the developers are only a few blocks away from me :D
It's a lot of fast paced fun. It's great and worthy of a purchase.:)
it's definately still popular...not to the extent that it should've though...the game has tremoundus mod potential but suprisingly no one has come up with something decent...if you're looking for a game with mods then look somewhere else for now...a lot of the mods are either very buggy and only have a very limited number of servers...usually it's a combination of both...in time though they'll get better and there will be more when phase 2 of nvidia's make something unreal contest is done this friday...however ctf and dm is very fun and fast...I'd buy it if I were you...it's a pretty fun game and in the next month I think I'll get a lot more better with unreal fortress 2003 comming out...also speaking of maps and mods I'm making my own ctf map...I hope to release it next week sometime but here's an early shot: http://points-crap.50megs.com/collidingworldsshot2.jpg - the water is placeholder until I can come up with something decent...
That looks great! Does the SDK come on the cd and where do you get textures from?
everything you need is already included with the game...even comes with maya personal learning edition to make your own models which is handy for those who don't have a few thousand dollars to spend...all those textures and the background canyons are actually from the game that are in a different levels...
Ill bring back the, it felt too much like quake 3 to me and not enough like UT arguement.....just to be a pain:p
No way, thats one of the reasons I was rather dissapointed by UT2003. The gameplay is nowhere near as good as Q3, if it was it'd be a great game with nice eye candy, rather than just a visual-fest.Quote:

I played the demo and knew almost immediately that I wasn't going to drop $50 on it.
I like UT2003, but no way did I spend $50 on it, waited till it went on sale and picked it up for $30. I will not plop down $50 for any game, that is just too expensive for me.
I picked UT2k3 up for $20, and at that price it is a good deal. UT2k4 deluxe is going to have a DVD that walks you through the mod creating process. I expect a lot of quality mods as a result.
