I just build my new system
Amd Athlon T-Bird 850mhz
128 pc 100 ram
Abit KT7 not Raid
V4 4500 PCI

I get rondom lockups during surfing or plaing games!
Maybe i have to disable agp while im using pci
I have 4 in 1 via drivers
Please help what esle do i need?
What kind of RAM did u GET. YOU must use Crucial PC133 CAS2 or Mushkin PC133 CAS2 or Kingston PC133 CAS2 in AMD's. They barely are stable with the above mentioned memory. Can you return it and get an INTEL? Good Luck Buddy!!!

What really P##ses Me off about these Sharkyforums is that NO-ONE is Man enuf to recommend first timers go with Intel Systems exclusively....Mebe you Veterans can deal with the Finnicky AMDs...but dont push them on newbies!!!

Yes, i agree with Chillingworth about the RAM issue. You really should've bought your ram from www.crucial.com because they are of the best quality and GUARANTEE that their ram is completely compatible with your AMD system. (However, don't go to the trouble of replacing your sys.) Anyways, what type of HSF (heat-sink-fan) are you using on your CPU? If it's a cheapo one, then you're CPU might be the culprit since T-birds are notorious for burning up. If so, then get a more reliable and powerful CPU HSF. Also, make sure that your power supply is ample enough to support all of your peripherals (ie DVD, CD-RW, G-card, S-card, etc.) Also, is your power-supply FULLY compatible with your AMD proc.? If not, it may be causing your problem. I hope this helps!Quote:

I don't know what all you guys are talking about AMD T-bird needing amazing quality ram and amazing HSF. Cuz I have 3 AMD in my house. duron700 (A7V), athlon500 (MSI6167), T-Bird950 (KT7) and all work fine with Hyundai CAS3 PC133, PC100, PC133 (respectively) ram. all work great, plus the duron is running at 808mhz unlocked using pencil method. all else is running a default speeds. never had a problem with anything. another thing. the Duron700 is even using a crappy powersupply from 2 years ago (250watts), no problems at all.
I have no idea why you'd think AMD needs specific brand name ram and high end heatsinks for it to be stable. I've built many systems for customers and they don't have problems with stability either. (well, except for that guy who bought a T-bird 1ghz to run on a 235watt powersupply. but that was just stupid). But if you exclude that t-bird 1ghz, all 14 of 14 systems work like a charm.
anyway, as for your instability problem. please specify on how it becomes unstable? is it blue screen? or just plain frozen screen? or what? did you install the via 4in1 driver update?
Ditto, I too have generic no name pc100 ram and no problems!!! Check for IRQ conflicts, And give us more to go on.Quote:

I'm beginning to think the whole myth of buying badass RAM and HSFs for AMD machines is load of sh*t that someone is using to sell components. (Probably dreamed up by someone at Micron)
My AMD ran absolutely terribly, locking up every few minutes. So I went out and bought a really nice set of chassis fans. Crash. Then I bought a really nice HSF. Crash. Then I spent the money for Crucial RAM. Crash. Then I got Arctic Silver compound. Crash. Then I upgraded my PSU. Crash.
It ended up being the stinking Asus A7V BIOS version. So screw Asus for writing bad code.
I will say this though, I've never had trouble with my Intel machines like I have with my AMDs. I could drill a hole through my Pentium chips and wear them on a chain around my neck in the pit at Woodstock and they'd still run solid. That's what the extra $ is for. Predictable dependability.

I dont get blue screen but the screen just freezes

My ram is not generic cause i bought from the store and it was not cheap i also have some differenet generic ram but i dont wanna use it in new pc

usually, it doesn't matter if you have IRQs being used for multiple hardware. I have IRQ overlapping on every one of my systems and they're not giving me any problems. I even have 4x IRQ11 and 4x IRQ12 on my athlon500.
Anyway, its really hard to determine what's wrong with the system. but if you use that "system information" program included in windows, they have a section under:
hardware resources > conflicts/sharing
where you can check if there's any conflicts (any conflicts should be highlighted in red)
you can also check under:
components > problem devices
and see if there's any actual problems with the hardware on your system.
then check under:
hardware resources > forced hardware
make sure this area is blank, cuz a lot of PCI cards don't like being forced out of its natural settings.
