I have no idea why you'd think AMD needs specific brand name ram and high end heatsinks for it to be stable. I've built many systems for customers and they don't have problems with stability either. (well, except for that guy who bought a T-bird 1ghz to run on a 235watt powersupply. but that was just stupid). But if you exclude that t-bird 1ghz, all 14 of 14 systems work like a charm.
anyway, as for your instability problem. please specify on how it becomes unstable? is it blue screen? or just plain frozen screen? or what? did you install the via 4in1 driver update?
Ditto, I too have generic no name pc100 ram and no problems!!! Check for IRQ conflicts, And give us more to go on.
