I use MultiRes.

I edited the INI file to include only those resolutions I wanted in there. This is what my MULTIRES.INI file looks like:

Most modern display drivers install with an icon you can keep in the systray that'll do this exact thing too.
This tool, MultRes, has been around a while. I've gotten used to it and how you can control it with so much detail. Plus, it works kinda like the old Win 9x power toy that eventually got built in to Win 98 SE. Similar in its simplicity. Even though ATI, for instance, has something like this, I still think I like MultiRes better. Maybe I'm just too chicken to change. :)
I was hoping to click on a short cut, that I could have in my tool bar area.
Can I do that?
