I need some opinions on this video card because I plan on using this card for my new rig I'm currently building. I know some of you will tell me to get the Radeon 9800 Pro but I don't plan on playing Doom 3 or the other FPS's out there.

What do you plan on doing with it? If just some RTS's and you can get one cheap used than go for it, but a new one seems a waste of money.
9600XT is a fine little card. If the price is the same as the 9800 Pro though, I'd get the 9800 Pro. If the 9600XT you are looking at is like $149 or so, I'd get the 9600XT. Sapphire or genuine ATI brand seem to be the most popular. :)
Whatever you do end up buying, I hope you enjoy it. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2006/07/3.gif
I have a Connect3D 9600XT in my niece's rig, tried UT2k4 and NFSU on it, and I can honestly say that I was impressed by what this lil card can do. FRs was quite good at 1024x768 and IQ was excellent.....a casual gamer would easily be satisfied with this lil card.;)
It does seem to do a nice job at 4xAA and 8xAF too, at least from what I've seen.Quote:

you can easily find used 9800pros for $150. You don't even have to look any further then in sharky's own classified sections to find them either.

yes but you can find a 9600xt for $100 or less and a 9700pro on ebay for $130 or less. I beieve both are still great cards.
Newegg has a 9600XT 128Mb for $132 - Rosewill brand. I do not think there is significant differentiation in the video cards from different vendors - some will have a better software bundle though. I frankly have little to no interest in the bundle, so I get the cheapest card there is every time.
I have the retail version and its quite good. Runs very smooth as long as you don't run games a 1600X1200 or Doom III, Farcry, Battlefront above 10X70.
