Linux mail server

I'm doing research on setting up a new mail server for my company. We have a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC server and I want to put Linux on it. I've searched the forums and saw posts from 2001 and 2002 discussing sendmail, qmail, postfix, etc... This being 2005, I was wondering what the best solution is. I want a secure, spam-free (or as spam-free as possible) email environment for my clients. We have several virtual domains, and approximately 200 email accounts set up on our current server. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for the links, but I was mainly looking for suggestions on which are the preferred tools to use, sendmail/qmail/postfix/exim, and not so much on installing them. From some further reading I've done, I've come up with this setup:

postfix
spamassisin
clamav
squirrelmail

How does this setup sound?

my apologies - I have very limited experience working with linux - and even less in a setting such as you desire....so I really am only passing on some tidbits I've heard over the years. SpamAssassin is good - and ipcop, smoothwall, m0n0wall ( http://www.m0n0.ch/ ) are good firewalls

Squirrelmail is a very good webmail client.

I still run Sendmail, because to me, it's easy to set up and configure. That isn't the case with everyone.

I also run SASL, which allows for smtp authentication for outgoing mail.

I am just now setting up spamassasin, as I have never gotten much spam (I've guarded my email addresses quite fanatically.)

As far as anti-virus and whatnot, I have done nothing on that front. I have not had a need, as I'm running a personal server, and the people who have accounts on it know it's not running av software.

Of all the software you've mentioned, only Squirrelmail is familiar to me, and trust me when I say it's a huge step up from previous webmail solutions like /horde/imp.

This is a pretty standard setup, and what I use personally (minus clamav, but that's just because there is no virus filtering in place yet). Postfix is on par with sendmail as far as power goes, and unless you already know sendmail, it's probably a great deal easier to configure. I wouldn't run exim in a large environment. Some people like qmail, but from what I gather, it's not quite as powerful as postfix/sendmail.

A fellow network admin I know uses ClamAV and swears by it. I personally don't have any experience with it, but figured I could pass along the positive word-of-mouth.
