Lately I've been hearing that the GeForce 3 may go down in price to around the $400 mark. I just (yesterday, Sunday) ordered an Elsa ULTRA for $340 or so and would like to cancel my order if this is true. For $60 more, I would rather take a GeForce 3. Please help me so I can cancel in time if this is true. Also, if it is, I would like to know where you heard this information from since I can't find it anywhere.

So you guys think I should just keep the ULTRA for $340 that I ordered or pay the $15 more to cancel it and then the $60 more to get the GeForce 3 for $400? Again, I will be upgrading around early next year to a top of the line card, whatever it may be.

I just bought a regular GeForce 2 GTS because I decided that there was no way I'd spend nearly $600 on a video card, and I wasn't going to spend $340 on second best (for an Ultra). I figured I'd get the GeForce 2 and upgrade in a year or so when GeForce 3 prices had fallen. If I'd known they were going to cost "only" $400 I'd have waited.
Do you guys think that it is all an Nnidia plot? Tell people the cost will be $600 and everyone will say "I'm not spending that kind of money on a video card". Then lower the price to $400 and eveyone will think that they are getting a bargain, and rush all over themselves to buy one?
As for your original question, IF the GeForce 3 IS coming out at $400, then yes I'd cancel my order and get the GeForce 3. I hadn't heard this rumor though, so I cannot comment on its veracity.
I paid about $320 for my GTS 64mb when I was building my computer months ago, and it's available for totally less than that now. Any time you buy a video card it's going to basically halve itself in price within a very depressing amount of time and you'll be kicking yourself in the *** for ever having paid that much for it in the first place. One thing to take into account, when are the first games that actually support the GF3's really cool features. No sense in buying a Uberslayer MegaVide-O 68000 if there aren't any games that will be able to use it for months and months.

Anyone with a GTS2 class video card might as well pass by the GF3 out wait till it gets sub$200. The gains are not across the boards though they are there.Quote:

Now, tell me Phaethon. Why would Nvidia do that? Wouldn't they want to promote the sales of their chip in any way that they'd could? In most cases, price is the deciding factor in whether or not to purchase an item. You fellas have definately demonstrated that here. A GeForce3 at $600 was lofty, but at sub-$400, it becomes more justified. My suggestion to FuzzyNips: Cancel that order right away (hopefully you caught it before it shipped)! I am willing to bet that the other GeForce cards will drop dramatically in price as the GeForce3 becomes more availible. Let me know if I'm outta line here, but I'm all about value, and the GeForce3 tickles my fuzzy navel. But just because the DirectX 8.0 API is supported in hardware doesn't mean that I'll be getting rid of my Voodoo3 (despite the fact that Sacrifice's new version 3.0 beta now has enhanced DirectX 8.0 features).
