That is not good. They just started shipping the Dev kits and they don't know who to market the games to? Hell, some people are predicting the price of the PS3 to be over 800 bucks. I won't be buying one for that price!
Not only do they not know who to target it to, but it sounds like they won't even begin tapping into its power by the end of 2007. This looks like a major disaster for them.
I've been saying it for awhile, Microsoft will win next gen. Simply because they have the money, software, and the hardware out before Sony.
Do I think MS will kill Sony, no, and they probably will still get beat in terms of sales in Japan. But in the US I think the 360 has it locked.
hahahaha...I find this kinda funny considering that the PS3 seems to be to0 advanced for its time. Who the heck would want a blu-ray disc player when blu-ray discs aren't even out yet. Bah...looks like I'll be waiting till 2007 to pick one up ..;)
I would have expected better planning on sony's part. This isn't there first console afterall.
well they did say the same thing about the ps2.. and yet it is the most successful current gen console

I don't think that scenario can be applied to the ps3 beacuse of the limited use of blu-ray discs in our current market.
Granted you are right about the PS2 and I attribute that to loyal sony fan base and to a pretty good game library within a few monthes after launch. I think the PS3 will be a success granted, I don't think it'll have as an impressive launch as that of the ps2.
The timing of the PS2 release along with DVDs becoming popular was certainly good, although many developers complained about the PS2 being difficult to develop for in my experience (I work for game developers) many liked the PS2 because it was very flexible and fully controllable, in contrast to the Xbox which tended to hide details away from the coders, leaving them operating through the MS libraries. For this generation, I've heard the most complaints about the Cube, even those who liked developing for the N64 found the Cube development poor.
This definitely looks better for Microsoft, they've always worked hard on development support and they seemed to be doing well so far however I still think the PS3 has a better chance overall (And if anything, out of the consoles I'm an Xbox fanboy), simply due to the power of the Playstation name although the fact that Japan is a much smaller territory than the US is good for Microsoft as Japan will remain a weak territory for them.

despite previous reports, the current Famitsu has it on two very good accounts that the ps3 will launch in Japan at $400 and probably less everywhere else just like the ps2.
and as much as i love MS/Xbox i see them getting the less optomized ports this gen. their launch lineup has a lot of higer res current gen stuff (besides PGR3). by the time the good stuff starts coming out the ps3 will be launching with it's first gen games looking as good as the 360's 2nd gen. the lemmings at retail will notice this, especially this holiday season where there isn't a whole lot that actually pushes the system and initial system sales will suffer. these sales are CRUCIAL to not only getting, but MAINTAINING the good 3rd parties.

I don't know why Sony is doing this. With the costs of developing a game skyrocketting, seems like making it easy to code for would be the way to go.
i think the problem is more to do with the system itself and designing for the cell. not the lack of anyone trying to make usefull middleware.Quote:

Developers are going to have to decide where to spend their money. Sony is already hurting financially. They need the PS3 to be a huge success and quickly. That doesn't seem to fit in with the development time required to learn the PS3 tools and write a killer game for it. I wish future PS3 developers all the luck. They're going to need it.
I guess you could always play the duck / tub demo.
They need to add weapons, lots of them. And moving, talking barneys and teletubbies. ;)Quote:

I don't know, yet, if I'm gonna end up owning an XBOX 360 or a PS3. But I do know that I'm not buying either until both have been released. That way, I won't be basing my purchase on speculation... And should I ultimately choose the 360, I might even get it at a slightly better price than I would at launch.
