trying to build a good gaming rig + multimedia center

I am very confused with what type of components I need to get for that. It would be great to see one of these configs detailed out on this site. For example, do I need a main video card for graphics, one for PVR/TiVo ability and one HDTV tuner and a regular NTSC tuner? How do I connect them all so that it all outputs to the TV?

I was reading an article on another website and here is what they listed for their config (the article is over a year old):
