VIA chipset and ATI Rad issue ..Need advice..
Hi there . I knew that it was an old issue , but I think this problem has not been sorted out yet.
I have searched the all threads related of this problem from google , but got no satisfied solution or work-around.
Since my Albatron KX18D PRO ( NForce2 ultra ) died , I am using Albatron KX400 8X ( KT400A ) right now as replacement for my system.
Here is my old rig I'm currently using :
- Albatron KX400 8X ( KT400A ) , latest official release BIOS 1.05 .
- Athlon XP2400 ( 133x15 ) , I decided not to overclock for KX400 8x.
- 512M RAM PC3200.
- ATI Radeon 9700 PRO 128M Hercules 3D Prophet.
- 40G HDD Seagate
- Codegen 480 Watt Pure Power ( NEW ) .
- SB Live Platinum . I disabled on board sound through BIOS and all field related to sound such as MIDI address , game port address .
I got no problem at all when using Creative Geforce2 MX card to run 3DM2001 SE for about 5 hours in loop mode.
And then I switched the card to Radeon 9700 PRO .
I reformatted my hard drive and clean installed the Win XP SP2 , Mobo driver , graphic driver , applications .
Then I ran the 3DM2K1 and threw me to desktop in the middle of default benchmark with error message of MFC application had problem .
I played Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and after 30 minutes of play , the screen went blank and must be restarted , then the windows said it had recovered from serious error.
Things that I have done this far :
- Updated the video card driver from ATI Control Panel Classic 5.8 to the CCC 6.3 . The problem remains ---> The screen went blank and after restarting the CPU , it was said that the windows had recovered from serious error. ( in the middle of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory )
- Updated to VIA Hyperion Driver 5.07 that was particularly recommended for VIA KT400A users. The problem still remains.
- Disable fast writes from BIOS and reduced the AGP speed to 4X in Catalyst Control Center so that the slider pointed at AGP 4X right now.
- I have flashed to latest BIOS 1.05 for KX400 8X mobo from long time ago and this version says that the compability issue has been improved if you are using ATI Radeon 9700 PRO and this mobo .
So I have done everything what it takes to have a stable system.
Any idea to help me ...
Thanks .
