A lot of us might consider it a subpar console. But you have to admit that Microsoft would be in deep squat if it failed. It held its own quite admirably against the PS2, a true giant among consoles. Although it was really just an X86 machine in a shell, that was a good thing indeed.
Here's a little history, you might notice its a little constipated. It was quite a painful existence I admit. Many of its games were really solid and are truly the lifeblood of the black brick. Due to a solid 'true' GPU, many people chose to play multiplatform games on the 360 instead. Im quite sure anyone of us can remember a game tha that sealed our pact with the system besides Halo. ;)
For me it was Ninja Gaiden (although I didn't buy it due to being strapped for cash) and Full Spectrum Warrior (ditto).

Edit: Oh yeah, its not even useless after its death. I know the number of people using XBMC is pretty large. ;)
