Asus and Acer build reliable, functional laptops that do their job. They lack the design and polish of notebooks from other OEMs, and will certianly not turn any heads or win any design awards. You can definitely tell their laptops were designed by Taiwanese electrical engineers.
You save a few dollars by going with Asus, and you'll certainly have a great laptop. But you might run into problems when it comes to buying accessories (extra batteries, chargers, etc), or if you ever need service / support on your laptop in the US.
