Question about recommended amperage on PSU 12v rail for Video Cards.

I'm looking to get an 8800GTS. This one in particular:

Now my question is about the amperage that is recommended on the PSU. The specs for the card says a

"Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amps.)"

I have an Enermax 500W PSU with 22 Amps on each of the +12V Rails.

Now because I don't meet the recommended ampereage, does that mean the card will not perform to it's full potential?

you bet it wont... and it may harm the card. Sapphire X1950 agp pro have the same problem, and need just as much amperage. Its a pain. Its also one of the biggest problems, every one has to see if they need to get a new power supply.

I did.. I got over it.. but the system works better now.

First of all, the PSU you linked got two 12V rails with 22A each so as long as the motherboard and the GPU are connected from different rails you should be fine.
Having said that, the recommended amps for video cards is very conservative. Using quality brand like Enermax and having a reasonable amount of Hds and peripherals you can get away with much less.

Well, I went ahead and ordered it. Now I can't wait!

I hope that one does it for ya...while the two 12v rails on that are 22a each, combined they are only 32a.
doesn't leave you much room for OCing that vid card or proc.

On a similar vein, I'm looking at getting an 8800GTX. The listings say a 450W PSU with 26 or 28 amps is needed. In searching through lots of PSU sales listings, I'm having difficulty finding any with more than 20 or so amps on any given rail. It looks like even the really expensive PSU's only crank 18 amps on a rail, but supply 4 12V@18A rails. I did find one PSU that had 12V1@18A and 12V2@30A.

So, is the 450W with 28A an aggregate requirement? What sort of amperage for the GPU rail should I really be looking for? If I need something like the 12V1@18A and 12V2@30A, with a modular cable PSU, how do I guarantee that the GPU hits the 30A rail?
