I'm looking into getting a E6600 core 2 duo.
it's at $308 at newegg now..
when can I expect to see it drop in price?
and will the crazy prices of Quad core intel drop to around $308?
I'm willing to spend at most $310 on a cpu...

for that quad core price though, that is in Q3 2007, in the fall.
q3 is quite a while to wait..Quote:

Here's a post from a guy at anandtech. I'm holding out for the 6420

Timeline Note:
The 6x20 CPUs (4MB cache 6300/6400 refreshes) will arrive in April around the time the 6x00 CPUs drop in price.
The 6x50 CPUs (adding 1333MHz FSB and bumping up the core clocks) will arrive in August, coinciding with the second price drop and the discontinuation of the original 6x00 series CPUs.
The idea appears to be to continue to add features to maintain performance advantage while keeping the same price points.
The line up:
The E2xxx budget Pentium E (Core2Duo Conroe-based) series:
E2140 1MB - 800MHz - 1.60GHz - 8x - $74 (June release & August price)
E2160 1MB - 800MHz - 1.80GHz - 9x - $84 (June release & August price)

Damn the August price drop seems like such a long time away..
I think I'll wait for the April price drop on the E6600...
if you think about it price will always drop.. depends when you want to get your stuff..
but that Quad core Q6600 at $266 seems very jucy
yeah I know...I wanted to build a new system in june/july...but I'm going to try and hold out...I mean 2 more cores for that price is just incredibleQuote:
