Basic CPU Comparison Table?
I am trying to put together a very simple and high-level table of CPUs to allow people that do not know much about computers have an idea of what they could find in a store. I am updating a presentation on how to buy computers for a community event. Before, we used processor speed in GHz as a general guideline. And we pointed out a little bit regarding the underlying technology, but did not go into details regarding FSB, L1 and L2 cache, etc. Nowadays, most CPUs are listed as models for a particular marketing name for the CPU.
I was thinking the list would be short, maybe say Core 2 and Turion and be done with it. But I found various older CPUs in desktop and notebook systems in retail stores in the USA. They have probably been lying around for a while. I even saw some celerons on both notebooks and desktops.
I am trying to list and compare CPUs from Intel and AMD for both mobile and desktop computers. I think I have most of it, but given that I have not put together a computer in almost 2 years, I am somewhat rusty when it comes to CPUs. I have 5 missing blanks denoted as "?".
Here is what I have:
Code:
NOTE: In descending order of performance (and maybe cost).
------
Mobile
------
AMD / Intel
1. Turion 64 X2 / Core 2 Duo
2. ? / Core 2 Solo
3. Turion 64 / Core Duo
4. Mobile Athlon 64 / Core Solo
5. Athlon Mobile Sempron / Pentium M
6. Athlon XP-M / Celaron M
-------
Desktop
-------
AMD / Intel
1. X2 / Core 2 Duo
2. ? / Core 2 Solo
3. ? / ?
4. Athlon 64 / ?
5. Athlon XP / Pentium D
6. Duron / Celaron D
Does that seem about right?
Is there such a comparison chart out there that I have not found?
